The cursor has too much play on the ruler, which induce a lack of accuracy and repetability. Let see, now, how long it will last. I would have like that the magnet be stronger. Overall, it's ok in a wood shop context. But no more than ok. One must be careful to get acurate results.

I have 4 other Wixey products and enjoy them, but I couldn't even open the battery door on this one, and I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The instructions on the box did not match the product on the inside. There was no help on Wixey's web site. I wasted my time and money on this one.

Things I like:- It's relatively cheap.- It works.- Strong magnet in the base holds it to metal surfaces.Things I don't like:- Metric resolution in only +/-0.05mm even though Imperial units read +/-0.001inches (which is +/-0.025mm). This is likely a rounding limitation in the digital controller that's used.- It doesn't arrive perfectly square (see pic).- The digital readout is at 90 degrees, so you get a sore neck and this might lead to the occasional human error when you're looking at the display.- It doesn't have a carbide tip on the end of the scribe. The scribing tip is also not replaceable. But then If you're using this so much that you're wearing out the scribe you should probably be buying higher quality tools.- The base is aluminum and looks pretty flat, but it's not going to be as flat as a ground steel base.

This tool functions exactly as you would expect if you commonly use tools like this for layout work and or height measurements.I would like to see it about $40 - $50 cheaper as it is just a regular run of the mill Vernier head with an arm for height measurements and an edge for scribing, and all is mounted to a small piece of extruded aluminum. All in all, it is a good buy if (like myself) you use things like this for a living or hobby. It does the job well.I would buy it again if something were to happen to the one I have!!!

Great little peice to have if you work with precise measurements

I've used a smaller, all-plastic Wixey digital height gauge for a year, and it has proven to be very useful. The one under review here is more stoutly built, and has a heavy metal base that will prevent it from falling over, and it can extend up to 4 1/2 inches (longer than the plastic model). This one is a bit more versatile, just as accurate, just as easy to use. I use it to measure table saw height, router bit height, router bit distance from the fence, distance from the drill press fence to the drill bit. Highly recommended for your woodworking shop.

I really enjoy using this little tool with my router table and making precise measurements. I recently used it to measure and replicate that measurement between my circular saw (blade to shoe or 'base plate') and the piece I was working on. It worked like a charm. It is, of course, extremely sensitive so be careful you don't bump it or anything.

I like this gauge. It does the job, the job I intended for it to accomplish. I would buy again. Measuring an existing height is easyand accurate. My one complaint is how sensitive the height adjustment is, when the lock screw is loose. This is an issue when using the roll thumbwheel, which is almost impossible it you are targeting a 3 place number (e.g.1.215). However, loosening and tighteningthe lock screw does not move the setting, so it is easy to work around this issue by just sliding very carefully until your numberis reached. For the price, I can live with this shortcoming. I can recommend this gauge with no problem.

The digital scale on the Wixley is accurate (so long as you make certain to zero it out first) and with a flat foot to place on the blade or bit it is easier to use than a dial indicator (which I also have and which I like for other purposes) to accurately set up the depth of dado cuts or the height (or depth) of cut to be made by a router bit.For example, to cut a dado in which to install a mini track in 3/4" MDF as I did this morning, the dado cannot excede the exact thickness of the track (approx. 3/8"). Otherwise 7/16 screws will penetrate through and stick out the other side of the MDF. You don't even need the digital scale. Put the mini track on a flat steel surface, such as your table saw top, raise the foot of the Wixley and place it on the mini track and turn the locking screw. Use this to set the top of the dad blade set, cut the dado and voilà, the tract fits.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. I have not had any problems with it; it works great. I don't have any way to measure its accuracy, but I can say that its repeatability is good, which leads me to believe that it's probably accurate as well. Additionally, the little wheel is handy for making slight adjustments to the height. The find nearest fraction ability is also nice.I used this to set the action of my guitar strings. My requirements were strings at heights of .06 inches, .05 inches, etc., and this worked great and made it possible. I had tried with go/no-go thickness gauges first, and that was pretty much impossible. So contrary to what another reviewer said, there was no other tool that could do what I needed; this was the ticket.

I bought this height gauge at the same time I bought the Wixey angle gauge. The angle gauge has become a workhorse in the shop. It's much more reliable to set a table saw blade's cut angle (and to calibrate the blade to 90 degrees) with the Wixey than with a square, but the height gauge is easily supplanted by other, easier to use manual gauges, or height blocks.

I purchased this tool after buying and using the . Both units appear to use the same measuring and display device and are well designed and made for their particular applications. The display is relatively large with numbers that are fairly easy to read in most circumstances. I wish that they had a backlit display for better viewing, but they are pretty good the way they are. The required battery is included and installation is fairly easy and straightforward. Both units are as accurate as anything else that I tested them against and both have smooth, easy operation. It's very nice that they display the fractional units when they are appropriate. I think they're a pretty good value and are going to be well used in my shop.
