I purchased this to see if I would like a swinging door on my chicken coop vs the rising door I currently have. Because my current door is by this same manufacturer, I understand how to program it. If you are new to this manufacturer, there is a bit of a learning curve to figuring out what works best for you (light sensor vs set times for opening and closing). For me, setting the times for opening and closing works great! Pros of this door:The solar panel is easy to set up.The door is sturdy and made of metal. The door swings smoothly and quietly.Cons:Doesn’t stop if something is in its path while it’s shutting (like your chicken). But, hopefully your chickens are fast learnersNotes:Door is fixed to swinging open right to left. And it swings all the way open 180°. It will lay flat against the wall when open. This may not make a difference for your placement, but it did for mine. The plug is on the right side of the door, making cord placement a little tricky if you need to place the panel to the left of the door. Again, this may not matter in your application, but it did for mine.Overall, I like the concept of this door, especially if you have limited space above your coop entrance.

As anyone who has chickens, an auto door is about as important as the coop itself. I love this door & the chickens took right to it. A few things to consider…. (Sorry it’s a bit long)1. The door itself is powered “up” behind the mounted power mechanism so there needs to be clearance from trim or ridges in the siding so it can freely move (for me I needed to add some trim around the door for it to do so. Not the fault of the door but rather from the style of the coop) 2. It appeared “small” to me & I wondered if my birds would fit -they do😂one at a time with zero squabbling. (I have barred Plymouth rocks, Americaunas, black marans, isa browns & sapphire gems)3. It has 4 different program capabilities auto open/close at dawn/dusk , auto open at dawn, program dusk close, program dawn open, auto dusk close & program timed open/close. Since it’s winter i use these programming time feature & my chickens have amazed me at their instinct to be in the coop well before it closes (set for about 10 min past sunset)4. It has 9 feet of cord to the solar panel that recharges the battery to allow for southern exposure charging. I did what others suggested & charged the door with the USB cord before installing (it didn’t take long maybe a few hours, sorry I didn’t pay attention to time) the door was placed on the coop & the connected to the solar panel. Zero issues since. (Mid Michigan is notorious for gray skies during winter so I will see if that becomes an issue so far it has not) Side note-the power panel goes “dark” appearing to be inactive or dead. It’s just in a power save mode. If you touch the panel it activates. 5. You can at anytime manually open or close the door via a button on the control panel or by the remote if you need the chickens to be “out” of the coop or if there is a storm coming & you want them locked in for safety during a time when the door would normally be open. Not going to lie, I am new to chickens (12 chicks purchased Aug 2024 ) & I tend to research & plan things to the Nth degree before I make big purchases My door currently leads to a covered secure run with the capability to lead to a contained free range area (still under construction) I anticipate purchasing another door for that access once it is completed. For the price, I am extremely pleased with the purchase.

This chicken coop is very well-made, really sturdy and solid. Even with the cold weather we’ve had lately, it’s been working like a champ, which is a huge relief. The solar panel is a game-changer. I love not having to worry about running a power line or swapping out batteries all the time.Another feature I liked is that it opens on the side instead of sliding up or down. It’s way safer for the chickens. If anything were to go wrong, there’s no risk of their heads getting caught. That peace of mind alone is worth it!That said, there’s one thing to keep in mind. Because it opens to the side, you need to make sure the opening in your coop is big enough for the door to swing fully open. It’s not a dealbreaker, but you’ll definitely want to read the instructions carefully and double-check your measurements before installing.

This unit is a great upgrade from an older model I have. The remote works from inside the house, it has a better solar panel, the display is easier to read and it is easier to program. But the light senses-er does not work for closing the door. It closes the door way too early, even when set to the lowest light setting. The Time of day open and close work just fine.If you get one of these units which are sold by many vendors, I recommenced this vendor due to the customer service.
