These things are great when they work. I bought two last September and installed them over the winter. So these only had a few trips going for Kokanee and Sockeye under their belts. All with light weights and low stress uses. The first one died last week. It stalled on boot up, and after I unplugged it I could not get it to power up again.It was the master unit but I did not get the limited functionality in the second downrigger mentioned in the other review so that issue may have been addressed.Cannon customer service was easy to deal with. They directed me to a Harbor Marine Maintenance and Supply in Everett. I got lucky and the guy who works on them was just finishing up another one when I walked through the door so he just did mine since he had all the tools and parts out. A one hour turn around is hard to beat!The Cannon CS guy acknowledged this has been a real problem. He said they switched to a new motherboard this year so hopefully the problem is a thing of the past. The guy who worked on mine said he put in the new board. He also said there is a software update that somehow helps the issue with the motherboards blowing up. So I tried to update my other downrigger when I got home, and it died when I powered it up (before I could do the update).I am not giving up on them yet, but I am really close to selling them and putting the Scottys back on my boat. As it stands now these things are expensive and unreliable, and they are going to have a long way to go to get my trust back. Two stars is only because Cannon Customer Service and Harbor Marine Maintenance and Supply have both been prompt and great to deal with. Looks like I am driving to Everett again today.

I did recently purchase a pair of these Optimums 10 TS along w/transducer. I really like the features and the bottom tracking is great one. Makes trolling 5 feet off the bottom really nice. Just set sensitivity to the max and retrieval rate the same. You must also install breakers for these and you will want the weight retrievers for them and covers. I had to go to 3 different big name outfits to get these things. Nobody had all of them. As for Mr. Eric soles comments you are risking downtime in your purchase because of the known common issue that Cannon admits to is complete Motherboard Failure. i think that is from the ones supposedly made in Canada. Because my USA product worked great out of the box and the Canadian unit was lame once I turned it on? Why doesn't Cannon have QC? Put power to them & test before boxing them up for retail. I had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement and additional cost of 65 dollars in postage. I have yet to submit that receipt for cash back. I know they will refund but it was sure miserable paying like 3500.00 bucks for the package only to disassemble re-package and take to airport for a replacement that should not have happened in the first place. But they are nice. One can fish the bottom alone and not worry about losing gear. Know that I know of their track record. I would Take a Battery inside the store and test it on the spot before purchase :)
