About this item

  • Chrome-plated retainer
  • Can be used on B, E or A string
  • Used on most American Deluxe and Dimension bass guitars
  • Fits American Deluxe and American Elite four and five-string basses

Prevent string buzz on your bass guitar with a genuine, easy-to-install Fender Stealth Bass String Retainer. This chrome-plated retainer increases the break angle from the tuning key to the nut, providing greater tension, a more secure fit and greater stability. The retainer also replaces the washer on the tuning machine for your B, E or A string, alleviating the need for additional mounting hardware.

Though overpriced, it eliminated the A string buzz on my fender bass

Way overpriced, for something that corrects a Fender design flaw. But item works, is high quality and is easy to install.

It seems to help reduce the Fender A string rattle on my American Performer. Shameful that Fender lets $1,900 basses leave the factory without one installed.Note - this will not fit Mexican made Fenders. I took a picture of my Mexi - they use thicker ferrule style tuning machines.Expensive for what it is but it’s a way better solution than screwing holes in my headstock.

A few years back, I called Fender to see if they would sell me one of these since it appeared to be a part on some of their products. They told me at that time...no. So I was very happy to see that this part is now available. I bought three for my three precisions. After installing the first one, I have determined that the design is somewhat flawed. For starters, the A string still buzzes albeit possibly somewhat less than before. It still buzzes though. The design on this would be better if it fit over the E string machine and extended out to the A. At that point, you could just get a real string retainer and mount it between the A and the D.FWIW, it did seem like the A string had less floppiness than before though, but of course this could be placebo as I rationalize the price I paid for these parts. Luckily, I have never been at a gig where I even noticed the A string buzzing when attacked firmly.

This is so good to diminish string noise and should come standard. Only works with new style tuners though, no vintage because it requires the screw threads to keep it on...see American Standard style tuners.

Seems pricey for what it is, but it installed easily and does exactly what it's supposed to do without permanent modification to my bass. The A string no longer buzzes when played open.
