This tool reeks of "Made in China" mediocrity. In fact, after a brief internet search, I found out that Hermann Schmidt CO sells the EXACT same product but under their brand. This pretty much confirms my suspicion that this tool was made in china with cheap production and quality control. Here are some of the things that I found and did not like:1. The spring plate was NOT deburred in the slightest.2. There are rough machining marks on all the parts of this tool.3. The knobs wobble when turned since the screw holes were NOT tapped square.4. The hole in the swivel clamp is NOT centered.5. The adjustment knob on the base does NOT have a fine pitch thread and is incredibly loose. Can you use this tool in the shop straight out of the box? Yes you can.Do I think this tool is worth $253.62? Absolutely not, more like $100, if that.Had I known what I would receive in the mail, I would have bid on an old height gauge on an auction site and restored it. That being said, I AM going to keep this tool and turn it into a squareness comparator.Overall, this tool is not worth the hassle unless you like taking stuff apart and making it better. Do not be tricked into thinking you are buying a quality product that is made in the USA, because it is not. I will not be buying anything else from Fowler. Buyer Beware!
