As long as the gps is plugged in the traffic will talk. Will give alternate routes, just trust it. Like the extra features, and all is free. gas pricesm weather helpful. I am a little skeptical about the strength of lthe cigarette lighter plug. Handle with angle seems a lttle shoddy very careful about inserting and removing plug.

MSN Direct traffic via this device to my Garmin NUVI 770 works pretty good, about 50% accurate in predicting the occurrence and importance of traffic delays.[...]The receiver powers my GPS from the lighter and updates itself over a couple of days. Gasoline prices and movies seem timely and accurate. Events don't show for my part of VA.The traffic updates are spotty, but worth the cost. The device and my GPS will reroute me if they decide that traffic ahead will make my current route slower than the alternate. That's good. What's weak is the traffic data itself. I have good coverage of main highways and secondaries, but receive alerts for traffic on empty roads and no alerts for 6 lanes stopped or slow for long periods during rush hour.I am learning to use secondary tools to verify the MS Direct traffic information when making decisions. It's just another tool, but it has helped my 40 mile commute.

[...]I now wish I had not purchased mine. I've owned it since Jan 2009 and it worked ok at first. But the "send to GPS" function via MSN direct through Bing Maps hasn't worked for weeks. The MSN Direct market has been eliminated by GPS enabled phones.I'm hoping Amazon will have mercy on me and allow me a return for credit. I want my subscription money back from Microsoft as well.

I got this so that I could avoid traffic problems, but although I live in the Los Angeles, CA area, the coverage is extremely poor. I got no reception at home. I was told that to enable it I should go park somewhere for 20-30 minutes. Then, when I was in the coverage area, it took quite some time to get the data.Due to all of this, I decided to return it.

I purchased a nüvi 760 without reading the fine print, upon using it I realized that there was no traffic info available where I live, I tried to exchange the unit for a 780 without success, I then purchased this unit which was DOA, Thanks to Amazon great service it was replaced immediatly.I live at the extreme end of the service area (according to the broadcast map) and it updated itself rapidly, I am now using it often and it helps me avoid traffic, it also connects well with the MSN direct site which send info directly to the GPS unit.Great system

I've been using this traffic receiver for a few weeks now with my Nuvi 750 in the Detroit area suburbs and I have been very satisfied so far. It automatically routes me away from traffic problems and I believe have saved me on my commute time. The only complaint I have is that it takes a few seconds more (about 30-60) after the satellites lock up before I get my traffic info displayed on my Nuvi.

When I purchased the GPS, I purchased another receiver that was more costly and did not provide the reception or options available with MSN. I can get the traffic quickly and the exact areas where problems are...The purchase was priced good, and received when expected. However, in LESS than 3 months..........the end that goes in the lighter came apart..........this was the 2nd time.......not worth the price for 3 months.
