I bought this to quickly split 2x2 basswood carving blocks into triangles - much simpler than creating a jig for my table saw. The blade is well-ground, straight, and razor - or I should really say, chisel - sharp. Perfect.

Most of my carpentry are furniture and cabinets made from medium-grade wood. Only occasionally will I use Walnut, Mahogany or oak. The vast majority is with pine. That being the case, this wood chisel suits me just fine. It is not the sharpest, so it works for pine but struggles with harder woods. The good news is that the hardened steel can be easily sharpened. A few minutes on a stone or a even a belt sander puts this chisel up to the level it needs to be at. It maintains its blade well also. The tool is hefty, it balances well in the hand and is plenty sturdy to use with a mallet. It is not the favorite chisel I own but it is the widest one. For certain applications, I am so glad that it is in my tool box. Buy with confidence.

I needed a chisel. I moved and couldn’t find my tools. Clicked on this chisel and it came right away! I had to pound away on linoleum 16x14 foot kitchen and got it done quickly .

For starters, I hate chisels. If there's another way to get something accomplished with another tool, even if it takes twice as long to do it that way, I'm going to do it instead of using a chisel. However, there are some jobs that require you to swallow your pride and bust out your nemesis--I mean, the chisels. For what it's worth, this is pretty sharp and works fairly well. It seems to be a durable tool, and it does the job if you absolutely have to use it. So, regretfully, I have to say that this works well and surpasses my expectations.

This is the biggest chisel I own. Two inches is pretty massive by chisel standards. Especially when you’re doing fine woodworking. I ordered this chisel with fairly low expectations. All indications were that it might be fine for rough carpentry, but couldn’t be used for more nuanced work.I was wrong. That being said, you do need to keep in mind one important thing: this chisel arrives dull. If you want to get it into useable shape, be prepared to spent some time honing it and creating a secondary bevel. And I mean a fair bit of time. Two inches of steel doesn’t sharpen quickly. But if you persevere, you can get a razor-sharp, mirror edge on this beast. Sharp enough to shave hair from my arm.The handle is pretty crude—more for whacking with a hammer than for fine control—but useable. I’m not complaining about that when the blade is what’s really important. In the end, I’ll probably use this chisel to pare protruding dovetails or to shave dowels flush. Which means it won’t be the first chisel I reach for, but it has definitely earned a place in my workshop!Bottom line: this can be a really nice chisel—as long as you take your time and get it into fighting fettle. Just don’t expect it to be razor-sharp out of the box and be prepared to put in the effort.
