Q: What is Mason line?
A: Mason's line, also called a Mason's twine, is used to create straight lines and a level surface. It is needed when laying out posts, patios, footings and more. A mason's line is necessary when doing these projects because you will not have to pick up the level so many times.

I've never used this type of string before. It's wound in several directions and I couldn't find the end of it to start unraveling it. After I'd spent several minutes (and looking at videos that were no help), the "thumbing" I was doing on the string caused it to loosen and unravel into a big tied up mess. I'm guessing all string of this type is wound up that way, but it would be nice if the end was marked in some way. The string seems durable enough, but I ended up not needing it as I thought I would to pull cable through my attic.

Orange color is easy to see and it spanned 80 feet with no sagging when I was setting fence posts.

I used this line to set grades for a huge landscaping project I did. Needed to set grades for over a hundred feet at a time so line had to be pulled very tight, Easy to see orange color and strong enough for the job.

I stretched this string, as tight as it could be stretched, by hand, over 200 ft. It remained taught. We drove a tractor, repeatedly over the taught string lines, and they remained level. Hell yeah. Great product. UPDATE: drive over the string, pulled tight between stakes, in a dirt arena, with 4,500lbs tractor and 9,000lbs. Skid steer. It refused to break, for approximately 6 weeks. Eventually it broke, when the trip axle dump trucks came in. Approximately 80,000 lbs. ...but because they had turned the wheels to make a turn, while on top of the string.π
