Definitely functional worked exceptionally well with melting down aluminum. The body is of a thinner metal as well as the touch head. The pliers are functional without issues, they doing seem like they would last constat use day in day out. That being said for a hobbyist I would recommend this unit hands down. The product was very simple to set up and a manageable size for storage. The overall construction seems to be very durable for hobbyist use and the overall appearance and look of the unit was satisfying

I have zero complaints. Came well packaged. Very good quality. Made multiple bricks of aluminum. The refractory material looks barely colored after a good first firing. No flux used. Popped out of the mold once it cooled enough.

I got this for my son, and it's actually really good quality. I would say this is really good for a beginner, as it's quite small, but he just wants to use it for small projects. We had to gather a lot of different things before he could get started, like safety equipment, tongs, molds etc.It ws really quite easy to set up and get lit. Temperature control and all that will take a lot of practice and trial and error, but that is part of learning this hobby. I think this is fairly durable, and he hasn't had any issues with quality or how it is built. Really good, entry level equipment for the price.

Can I say this was a bit of a scary purchase? I mean burning gas and flames! This is not my first metal melting apparatus, but this is my first propane-fueled one! Some things to note: If you are going to do this, you want to get tongs to lift and pour the crucible! The tongs supplied is not enough. They do hint at this in the listing and I agree! Also you want protection, heat-resistant gloves at a minimum, a good thick protecting apron, or other clothing protection as well! This works really well. After warming things up to get started over5 min and increasing the flame over time. Then after I put the copper in, it took about 10min to melt.

Ceramic coupler shattered and was in pieces when the box was opened. Unable to return through Amazon and don't know what replacement will fit.
