Another reviewer said the diameter was larger than 3/8 but we have found the actual diameter to be .3737" which fits all the collets and fixtures perfectly. The minimum hole size to use this bar without modification is 5/8" or .625". Would highly recommend this boring bar.

Great tool, well machined, but the cutter is slanted down, aggressively? Why...its listed as 3/8, but is closer to 1/4"...due to cutter slant, even less. and under stock size, requires a minimum of 3/16" inch of elevation to even approach center line...confused...as my other oscarbide tool sets are legit.from centerline, cutter is angled downward 30 degrees...in a 5/8" bore, cutter can't engage, as it is bottomed out...so sad.

Didn't have much hope for the inserts that came with this bar but everything works great. Have used the tool to cut stainless, carbon steel and copper-nickel (different surface speeds, of course) with good results.

This was as advertised and we have used for several projects. Quality is ok, and the only downside, common for low cost tools, is that the little screws are weak. I already found a replacement as when I tightened screw, i could tell that the screw head was going to strip out.
