This specific application was on a 1987 Mastercraft Prostar 190 ski boat with a Ford 351 Windsor engine.Easy install, works perfect, decided to go back to a simpler system on the engine. Engine had an MSD 83506 marine distributor in it for 2 years and the magnetic pickup and ignition module failed. The Pertronix is much simpler, has great spark and more affordable. The engine runs smooth, in fact she has never run better!

Parts for my Prestolite NLA, this was a nice, easy to install replacement, .5olm resistance coil needed also as per mfg. recommendations.

I'm chapped.I purchased a Pertronix Ignitor for my old Prestolite Distributor and that thing worked well, until I noticed that the springs inside it were worn to the point where they would return from their advance.. So I ordered this paper weight. I installed it, and the boat ran like crap. Sputtered, coughed, and hiccupped and backfired through the carb. Great. I thought it was the timing, so i pulled it all apart, found TDC and reassembled. Because the boat was so old, I assumed it was something else.. Burned up my starter trying to get it all going. Bought a new starter and today I got everything back together and decided to just have a look and see if the unit was good before I burned up another starter.I found a website that showed me how to test:1. Connect a jumper wire from the Ignitor Plate to battery ground.2. Connect the Red wire from the Ignitor to the battery positive terminal along with the red lead from a volt meter.3. Attach the Black wire form the Ignitor to the black lead of the voltmeter.4. Move or rotate the magnet sleeve in front of the Ignitor Module, the voltmeter should vary from battery voltage to 0 volts and back. What do you know! I got readings between 8.5 and 0 volts at random times over 360 degrees on a BRAND NEW 12 volt marine battery. So, I did the same test on the 1st Pertronix I bought for the Prestolite distributor. 12.53 - 0, 8 times over 360 degrees. The first one was fine. The Ignitor II on this unit is a piece of junk. I tested each unit multiple times just to make sure It wasn't me.Seeing this failure, I returned the Flame Thrower II coil and the Pertronix Spark Plug wires as well. I'm not going to risk getting stranded in the middle of a lake with parts that I can't trust.Pertronix - PLEASE QA YOUR merchandise!
