RASPBERRY PI USERS TAKE NOTE: This cable works for external USB attached SSD, but only if you're using a power adapter rated above 3.75 amps. This cable's inbuilt indicator lights pull enough current to make the 3.6 or below rated adapters unreliable to provide enough power to drive the cable and the SSD. (unreliable boot issues)OTHERWISE, great cable. very durable, works across all my other hardware.4 stars only because the description did not reveal the presence of LEDs in the cable connector.

I was getting ready to take a bunch of old SATA hard drives to the electronics recycling center. I had another device like this but the process of 7x secureErase can be very slow for large drives. So I ordered this. It works but just outboard of the electrical connector there are plastic nubbins that help align the dongle with the hard drive. The plastic nubbins in the older device were MUCH more secure, a tighter fit. That meant I had to be much more careful not to disturb the hard drive during the (up to 24 hours) secureErase process.

I came to look for an enclosure so I could transfer some data from a disc. I found these and they are better as I don't have to install the disc, just plug it in, then plug in the next one.

Works great. Fast transfers from SSD to NVME. Packs away into a small pocket in your laptop bag. Could be a bit longer, but not really a big deal.

I bought 2 of these products (one that uses USB-A 3.0 connector and another one that uses USB-C). So far they work great. I would like to point out that the SATA end is plastic so you want to be a little careful so you don’t accidentally break it.I’ve tested the USB-A version on 2.0 and 3.0 ports without problems. Now I would only recommend connecting 2.5 SSDs if you are limited to using a 2.0 port as they normally require less power. The 2.5 HHDs normally require a little more power to function so it’s best to use a 3.0 port whenever possible for those. The USB-C version is its own connector type (3.0+ port) which has no real drawbacks and runs similar to the USB-A 3.0.Now it is important to know that the Size 3.5 SATA HHDs won’t work with this adapter as it doesn’t provide enough power in itself to make the HDD function. 3.5 Hard Disk Drives require an extra power source to run so use this adapter is best used only for size 2.5 SSDs and HDDs.I’m quite happy with the product so far.
