With Scotty power grip plus line releases, the fishing line is gripped between the soft pads, and variable release tension is attained by moving the line in or out of the jaws. The line release is attached to either the weight or the cable.

For these line grips, I did not use the big metal clips that came with them.I have these attached to 30 inch 50lb line for attaching to downrigger rods and for using on 11 foot fixed slider lines on the riggers.For attaching grips to line, using 50lb VMC or bigger snap swivels. The swivels are just big enough to fit the grips.

The release is great and quite visible at 100' when running my planar boards. Clip pressure amount is determined by how far back you put the fishing line.The only complaint I have is the shower curtain like metal clips that connect to the planar line. You always want to run clip side down so that fishing line won't accidental pull through this connection while trolling. The main issue however is that these come disconnected very easily. I lost two very quickly while attaching and detaching to the boards. The releases do not float, so you get to watch your money sink to the bottom. So, I will be looking to find a better solution to attach the green release to the boards. The positive is these easily slide up and down the planar board line, but they come apart way to easily. I will also try bending them to promote greater pressure when closed.

Despite some negative reviews by some purchasers on line, my items were all in the package and delivered exactly as advertised. I have not yet used the item so I cannot comment on it's suitability for my purpose, but other items I use from this manufacturer have been problem free. Time will tell with regard to performance but they arrived as advertised and initial quality is what you wood expect.

I use these on my home brewed in-line planer boards and they work great! I've tested these from the bank of the Colorado River, which runs anywhere from 8-12 mph and the clips hold my line securely in the current!! No problems at all running these at trolling speeds of 1-1/2 to 2 mph on the lake. Will definitely buy more when these give up the ghost!
