I have two of these cards in my main server here at home (so, a total of 8 ports). These perform well, with good throughput (using Debian).

Bought this for hi end Lenovo workstation. System was crashing when using network interfaces. After replacing of memory and mainboard the Startech was suspected. Changing network to onboard Ethernet immediately solved the issue. Startech tech support suggested to disable all ports except one and it helped system to stop crashing. They send me the link to some outdated driver because the latest installed by Windows 10 would not work. The development team tested our application and faced strange delays in the data transmission over UDP. Tried with onboard Intel and no issues. I am tired of it and returning the product. It is a waste of time. Better go ahead with several single port cards of trusted brands.

I've purchased about 15 of these for our business over the last couple years. At first they work well, then after a year or two, they begin to fail. Now full disclosure, we probably use them differently than most people will use them for. We dive a lot of data through them. We have about 25 cameras that all snap images at one time, and (via a switch) send those images to a PC. This happens about once a minute, 24/7. So, maybe we are taxing them too much. I don't know. But there is clearly an issue with them. If I were looking to use these to process more data than most typical apps, I'd be ware. IMHO, I believe that this product is probably great and will not fail for 95% of the applications people will use them for, but for the 5% of people who will use them heavily, I would steer clear.

Be careful about the bus-width - first computer I wanted to use it on had only a narrower one (this card seems 'mid-width'). Second computer I tried was an earlier PCI-ex slot, full-width, but under Win XP, this card did NOT work. I believe this older motherboard had a pair of slightly odd PCI-express for some form of video linking.Anyway, finally put into a third system, with Win-10, and it worked fine. I need the 4 ports, each with a fixed IP to link to 4 cellular NAT routers on 4 sub-nets. Having the 4-ports allows normal IP routing to select 1 of 4 remotes based on IP.
