  • Easily installation: Please use a 3/8” for the 1/4 20, Reverse spin your bit when you start your hole to prevent tear out. Then switch to forward drilling. Nut driver works perfectly. Get a bolt and some nuts, and use a nut driver. Adjust your torque so you don’t send the thread insert deeper than you need(Installing Tool not Included)

These work very well for what I needed. I first used four of these to connect a fixture plate to a piece of particle board for my laser engraving machine. Particle board isn't the best at having screws bite into it so I did need to use some epoxy to keep it secure for the long-term. But the bolts screwed into these well so I know these are true to size. Next I needed to install a support bracket on a piece of White oak and these bit into the wood well and created a very secure connection.Overall I'm very happy with them

They're OK, wish they would have come with the install tool because without it they are kind of a pain. $10 for the install tool is also a huge ripoff. But with the tool, they go in pretty easy and work well. I really like that these sit flush without having to countersink anything.

This is the first time I’ve used slotted thread inserts. Typically, I’ve used the hex head inserts which require countersinking. I saw these and thought they might be quicker and cleaner to install since they didn’t need to be countersunk. I did use a 3/8” drill bit and it’s the perfect size for installing these inserts. The product page shows that an installation tool is included with these inserts, but I did not receive one. The tops of the inserts are slotted so I decided to us a screwdriver in the slot. I installed a pair of the inserts in a scrap piece of white pine which is very soft and lubricated with some wax. They started threading easy enough but by the time I got to getting them down flush, the screwdriver was doing some tearing of the wood. I’ll probably fabricate my own installation tool to use these inserts. Even though they are slotted, using a screwdriver did not make for a neat installation.

These threaded inserts are a solid choice for working with hardwoods like oak, cherry, and walnut. The stainless steel material feels durable and resists corrosion, and the sharp external threads grip the wood securely. They’ve worked great for a furniture project I’m working on and have provided reliable support.

I prefer these stainless steel threaded inserts over brass. I have found that brass breaks to easily during installation and the steel ones don’t. True to size dimensions. Great addition to any shop project. The only con is no indication of what hole size to drill for the insert. But that information is pretty easy to find online.
