I'm 5 foot 6 inches tall, age 60. The dial is too small for me to read with any precision. I can basically only tell my weight within about 5 pounds.

I purchased this specific scale because it did not require batteries. I AM FREE! It’s the Sunbeam brand that I trust. It has a full window of easy-to-read numbers. The small dial in front, and underneath the scale makes it easy to calibrate. All of these aspects are fantastic and environmentally friendly.Backstory: A few weeks ago I had purchased a simple digital scale at BB&B. It wasn’t until I was home and researched info about the scale that I discovered that the battery could not be replaced. Darn, I thought, but at least I’ll use the digital scale for a number of years, and then switch to an analog one that does not need batteries. Well, I used the digital scale once daily for about 2 weeks, and a darn code came up indicating that the battery was low! I had to return the wasteful product. The store didn’t offer any great analog solutions for me.I haven’t had this new Sunbeam scale long, but I am extremely happy so far. I choose this model based on the positive reviews. This Sunbeam model didn’t appear in my initial search of “analog bathroom scales,” on Amazon. I remembered that my parents have a decades-old Sunbeam scale, so I added “Sunbeam” in my search, and this scale happily popped up!

After having a couple of the flaky electronic scales around the house, I bought this one based on other reviews. It is a good, old fashioned scale, sturdy built and will repeat the same weight every time I step on it, unlike the electronic ones that are up a pound or two and down a pound or two every time you step on. This one also closely matched the reading from my doc's office and the beam scale at the Y, so I am confident that it is quite accurate. Numbers are very readable and my eyes aren't great. If you're tired of fooling with batteries and having the readings all over the place, I think you would be happy with this scale.

Love this scale. Easy to read, very accurate. I was able to stand on it and hold my dog to weigh him (glad he's small - haha) and with finally having a scale in the house, I've managed to be aware of my weight and have lost 8 pounds! YEAH! Seriously, it is very good and accurate - reads the same as the doctor's office scale which is what I wanted. Great quality, big enough for a big person to stand on (although I think the limit is 300 lbs) and read easily while standing on it.

Me gusto mucho, buen tamaño y números grandes. Lo único es que la numeración mayor es en libras y no kilos.

I'm happy with this little scale! I've checked it against the doctor's office scale several times and found that it gives accurate and consistent readings. I get the most accurate weight if I make sure to place my feet squarely on the scale, meaning that the outer edge of my feet runs parallel to the outer edge of the scale. If my heels are shifted in a bit, then the scale shows a lower weight, about a pound or two less. It also needs to be placed on a hard, level surface. As others have said, the the dial is small and hard to see the "exact" weight. (If I wanted more precision, I suppose I could have my kids kneel on the floor and look closely at the dial for me!) Also, the lights from our bathroom create a shadow in the dial area, so I find that shining a small flashlight directly down to the face of the dial removes the shadow (and doesn't add too much weight!).

This is not a "nice" scale, but a very utilitarian, no frills option for the price-conscious consumer. Perfect for me, as I'm in a college dorm style setting so I don't want to make a big investment on something "nice" quite yet. It's not ugly, it works great, and with a few caveats, I would say one of the best deals I've come across recently. The main issue you may have is with "zeroing it out." Out of the box, it will not be set to 0 lbs when resting (as expected), and you can use a small dial to set it to zero. Depending on how you do it, it could be off by up to 5 pounds. Now for many people, the correct way to set it might be intuitive, but for others (e.g. my roommate) this may pose a challenge. So here's the fool proof way to set it correctly:1. Put the scale on the floor and use the dial to move the needle well above 0 (like to 15 lbs)2. Step on the scale and then step off, taking care not apply any upward pressure on the scale after you're off (just don't touch it).3. Turn the dial *down* so you're approaching zero from the positive side. This way it will register your actual weight when you step on. If you want it to read less than your actual weight (self esteem booster?), don't follow those directions.Update: A year+ later, and it's still doing fine.
