This coffee container is perfect. The vacuum seal definitely does its job. It holds about a small size bag of coffee which is what I needed since I bought it to have at work. I am pleased.

I’ve had my little coffee keeper for years. Filling it with freshly ground coffee and opening it two to three times a day for a cuppa. This morning I noticed a small crack in the top and thought it might be time to replace it. Imagine my surprise when I see that I bought it 10 years ago! That means I’ve opened and closed the lid10;000 times — and it’s just now showing its age, I’d say that was super value! And total satisfaction.

We use this to keep our whole beans. Lid can be a little tricky to get on/off, but that’s because it’s doing its job with a very snug fit and button for vacuum release. Once you get used to it, it’s easy and has been very reliable. I bought two, and both have been in use for a couple years. Would buy again.

I bought my Coffeevac in 2015 and am still using it. It was inexpensive and very easy to use. I chose the black Coffeevac to prevent loss of flavor from exposure to light, and I think that makes a difference. The seal of the lid is still tight after 8 years, but there is one downside. The plastic is rather thin, so it has split around the sides in a few places. I wrapped the outside of the lid with clear packing tape to keep it airtight, and although it still works flawlessly, it's a little disappointing that I had to do that. Having said that, I'll eventually buy another Coffeevac because I haven't seen any better alternatives in that price range. There have been a few reviews that mention how long you can store coffee before it becomes stale. Take those numbers with a grain of salt, as there are a lot of variables. Dark, oily roasts, for example, tend to become stale quicker. I cannot comment on how long the Coffeevac will keep coffee fresh, as I roast my own coffee in 1/2-pound batches (using the Fresh Roast SR800 roaster) and then let them rest for 4 days while I consume the previous batch. One could argue I should let the coffee should rest a couple of days longer, but I have found that 4 days of rest is enough for delicious coffee, and it will never go stale if kept in the Coffeevac and consumed within a week.

I recently got back into grinding my own coffee beans and maintaining the work of a French press, and I have three other TightVac containers. This is an appropriate fit for a 12 oz bag of beans, but I find it best to store half the bag at a time and freeze the other. I believe the container fits just about the whole bag to its brim-- but the container maintains peak freshness for about two weeks, and it takes me about three and a half weeks to go through a bag of beans with daily use. Maintaining freshness is all about keeping smaller quantities. About the container itself: It's a sturdy plastic, vacuum seal at the press of an innovative valve button. Stands at a little over 5" tall and is 4" diameter. The opaque black color keeps light out completely to maintain freshness. These are worth investing in for food storage.

I've already got six Tightvacs and am buying four more today. They do a good job of slowing the staling rate for very fresh whole beans. Some of the people posting on this product do not understand what the term "vacuum seal" means in this context. It neither means nor implies that there is a perfect or near-perfect vacuum in the canister. Rather, if you try to raise the lid of a properly closed Tightvac without opening the valve, you increase the volume of the canister without allowing air to enter, that lowers the pressure in the canister (PV = NRT), making it impossible to remove the lid accidentally. Thus, no new air gets in unintentionally. In terms of slowing the aging/staling process, coffee stored in a Tightvac which would otherwise take five days to age and fifteen to stale, takes about ten to age and thirty to stale. In other words, a Tightvac works very slightly better than a can or heat-sealed bag with a one-way valve. The more completely filled the Tightvac, and the less frequently opened and closed, the better it works. I store my fresh roasts in the one pound size Tightvacs, use about half a canister to fill my grinder hoppers or for blending, then switch the remaining beans to a half pound size canister. They can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer as well as at room temperature. The combination of Tightvac and freezing stops staling dead for months. If you're using pre-ground coffee, the freshness battle is already lost. In that case, a Tightvac won't be any better than any other sealed storage -- a Mason jar for instance. But for anyone who wants to store freshly roasted whole beans, particularly for someone who roasts, these things are gold. And for someone who stores a lot of freshly roasted whole beans with the intention to post-roast blend, they're diamond encrusted platinum.
