I’ve used tape on my drill bit, eyeball it, etc. nothing beats a stop collar to set your depth exactly where you need it. They come in a nice case with the needed Allen wrench..

I bought this kit to dowel window screen frames I was building. I was using 0.25" dowels. I used a brad tipped bit with the 0.25" stop collar and I got perfectly deep holes every time. The collar stayed tight for the duration of my drilling (a couple hundred holes). Each collar has two ellen nuts and they tighten securely to ensure the collar stays in place.I recommend this kit to anyone who needs a full set of depth collars for drilling. Good value and good function.
