As I'm sure others have done before me, I wanted to put the high quality, 12 MP Raspberry Pi camera into an old 35mm camera body so I could change lenses quickly and have a rugged housing with a tripod mount. The very nice C-Mount that comes with the camera is too big to fit into the film aperture of the camera, but it's easily removed with just two screws. The only problem is that the IR cut filter is permanently fixed in the housing and I didn't want to destroy that assembly. So my solution was a 3D printed camera mount / filter holder. The first step was to see if I could buy a filter that would do the job in a size that was was easy to work with. The camera specifications clearly call out the filter they used, a Hoya CM500. But you can't just buy a 13, 14 or 15 mm Hoya CM500 naked filter. All the filters are larger and mounted in threaded rings to screw into lenses. I actually thought about doing that but the filters are pretty expensive AND I'd need one for each different lens I might use. So using my wallet compass, all roads led to the Gzikai filter at less than $24 delivered to my doorstep. The for OEM Hoya filter and the Gzikai filter are not identical but compare quite favorably. If anything, the curves suggest the Gzikai is the better performer. The 15mm size is plenty big enough that I could safely glue it to the mount without obstructing the sensor.Once I knew what size, I just used TinkerCAD to whip up a mount. This took less than an hour including getting all the measurements off the camera and factory mount. The part printed fast in PET-G and will last a long time. The filter came in excellent packaging with a very helpful protective plastic release sheet on one side. This made it easy to handle when attaching it to the mount. In quick tests with the 3200K LED ambient light of my office, using raspistill -awb incandescent, images with the Gzikai filter are slightly redder than images I captured with the same lens on a C-Mount adapter thru the stock filter, but easily within adjustment range. One special note. If you try this, I strongly recommend using UV curable resin to hold the filter in place because it sets immediately and does not have any of the vapor / out-gas issues you have with super glue - these would fog the filter glass and pretty much ruin the assembly. A tiny dab, top and bottom is all that's needed. I did it on both sides and it was overkill. So this is a success and I'm really happy with it. If you're looking for a solution to the same problem, you found it.
