For some reason they used a coating on the ends that bled into the pores of the wood over 1/4". You can't sand it out; I had to cut the entire top off and re-campfor it and re-cut the groove. They also looked like they rolled around the back of someone's truck for a few days before being packaged; the corners were all very damaged.

The wood quality is excellent. It was easy to install and fits securely with the handrails. My only reason for giving four stars is that the finish could be a bit smoother in some areas.
