Function and value and easy to use, but sharp edges.

I got these to have on had for the summer/fall for my new beehive. The reducer comes with a protective plastic layer, one peeled off it shines. The job of keeping mice and similar critters out of the hive is easily done with a piece of steel mesh. I go these since they're much nicer looking. Judging by the finish and the size of the holes, these should work great. I took off a star since a simple little sheet or sticker telling me to remove the plastic would have saved me from wondering what was going on and asking why they looked so wierd.

The description for these mouse guards are inaccurate. It says that one side has holes for ventilation and the other side has holes for the bees to enter. This is not true.If you use a bottom board with the shallow side turned up, the holes are too high up for the bees to enter. If you turn the bottom board with the deep side up, the mouse guards can work, but the one screw hole in the center is too low for attaching the mouse guard. It barely covers the entrance. Further, it can not be used combined with a wooden entrance reducer because the holes are too high up.The description also says that the mouse guards come with fasteners, but there were no fasteners in the package. The mouse guards are covered with a protective plastic film that can be peeled off. There are better fitting options for mouse guards available.

If the holes were at the bottom this would work great.
