These little neon bulbs are internally colored by way of reactive coatings and gas mixtures, not painted or dyed. They are very pleasing to look at, without the penetrating harshness of LED bulbs. With the recommended series current limiting resistor, they generate no heat as well. I'm making a Christmas light string for a miniature spruce tree (artificial), and they're perfect for it. Lots of soldering, silicone wire, 1/4 watt resistors, and heat shrink tubing involved, but it should be a permanent solution. After 4 strings of cheap LED strings failed, I figured this will last for years.There was a small problem with the quantity of green bulbs, but the vendor shipped a replacement immediately, and was apologetic about the oversight. Customer service doesn't get any better than that!PS ---for those of you wondering about safety, the string will be protected by a 1-amp fuse and a GFCI .
