What is a 3D marker?
3D Scanning marker is a small sticker or magnet with an image of a black or white dots printing on it. A 3D scanner uses these “high-contrast”objects to determine its location. Markers are usually applied on (or near) the object being scanned, to increase accuracy and repeatability of 3D data.

What else should I know about markers?
Here are a few tips for scanning with your scanners and markers. whatever your laser scanner in industrial scanning or infrared white scanner in consumer 3D scanning.
- At any given time during scanning, the scanner needs to see minimum 3 markers in every frame. When it doesn't, scanning will automatically stop.
- Although 3 markers per frame is the minimum, the optimal number is 5. That is because in certain circumstances, even if the marker is visible to the camera, the software doesn't recognize it as such.
- When affixing markers, apply them on flat areas of the object and not on sharp edges of the object. Also, that the scanner might sometimes not see a marker when looking at it from an awkward angle.
Why do we need 3D Scanner marker points ?
Markers are needed for accurate and easy 3D scanning. They actually solve two separate issues: difficulty during scanning and difficulty attaining high accuracy on large object
Without markers, the scanner will lose its alignment during scanning and the software will not know how Frame1 is supposed to be aligned to Frame2, Frame2 to Frame3 and so on… The software will try to align all frames using the objects’ unique geometry. However, this guesswork doesn’t always produce great results and in many cases, especially on objects with large flat surfaces and no unique geometry, even the most sophisticated algorithm will fail.
When to use 3D Scanning markers?
You would need markers to scan a flat surface with little or no geometry, and black color objects.
When not to use 3D Scannr markers?
You don't need markers if you are scanning an object with lots of geometry like humans or statues.
How to use 3D markers when scanning small item?
For smaller items,you can place markers around the object,instead of on the object.

How Far apart should they be placed？
Depending on what accuracy you request, markers should be placed randomly approximately 5cm apart for Minimum 10cm for Medium and 15cm for Maximum.
3 pcs markers in each frame is the absolute minimum, but 5 pcs markers are recommended to ensure smooth operations.

While these do get picked up by my Creality Raptor in blue laser mode, they are clearly inferior to the stock Creality markers that came with the Raptor. I tested by running the scanner over a sheet of these vs a sheet of the Creality markers and these ones flickered far more, meaning less consistent detection. This means it will generally take longer to scan with. You can also tell just by looking at them in the light that they are far grayer than the Creality markers and simply less reflective.

Sheets of tracker stickers, they’re nice and sticky and somewhat reflective. Make sure you use these in either direct or good lighting
