I needed a new hitch pin, so this time I tried a locking one. It looks and seems well built. With the key you spin the lock on and off. There is a O-ring inside that is supposed to keep out water and grit. I don’t know how well the lock will hold up or if it will bind up in the elements but I like that it is metal and not plastic. Happy with the purchase so far. Would recommend. Bought for a 2.5” receiver hitch.

This hitch lock seems well built. The screw on lock is very secure and gives an added bit a secure fit. I did have one concern but the issue was fixed with the use a a large washer and rubber grommet. The collar on the pin that keeps it from going through the hole on the hitch is not much wider than the pin itself. It does catch outside of the hitch hole but barely. Thus the use of the washer.

Here are the key points:The good:The body is stainless steel.The machining is excellent.The seal actually seals.The design of the cap envelopes the pin, hopefully making it harder to just break it off.The diameter of the pin at the cap connection is larger, hopefully making it harder to break off.The design is threaded making picking it cumbersome as they must do it many times to get it open.Includes a decent cap to keep the lock clean.The bad:The lock is easy to pick.The lock has no protection from drilling attacks.It is the best one I have found on the market. Unfortunately that doesn't say much. These locks are all terribly insecure. I would like to see this one tested against a hammer (or pipe) trying to break the cap off. I would also like to see a harder to pick lock, and hardened drill resistant features.Its hard to go much further though as battery powered angle grinders can cut thru a steel pin in seconds. Perhaps some carbide pins could be put in small holes where such a cut would be made... In the end, you want the lock that is harder to get into than the guy next to you, and hope they pick that one.
