My kids were excited to have this for soccer games and tournaments, where we are all outside for many hours on some weekends. They have one that is more like a tent, but it is large and cumbersome to carry, and impossible to keep in the car all the time. The winner here is the size and weight of the disassembled canopy. It is only a little over 5 pounds, and it wraps up into it's carrying case easily and compactly. Even one of the kids can carry it easily, and it can be kept in the car during soccer season. It would also be great for the beach, which they love. The open design is so much nicer, where you can take advantage of the breezes, and the views. It is also much nicer than carrying multiple umbrellas, which break easily, and fly away in the winds. The hardest part of this one is that you need to stake it into the ground, so it is pretty much a 2-person job. If it's windy, the included additional tie downs need to be used for stability. Once assembled, though, it is such a functional piece of equipment, perfect for people who don't want to be exposed to the sun all day long, or even for a few hours in our central Texas summers. It is available in two sizes, for smaller and larger families. At $39.99, as of this writing, I believe this is a great value. If you add up the cost of all the umbrellas you've ever lost, I think you'll agree.

Lightweight, love how small it packs, a staple in our car at all times. At first I wanted to use it at the beach, but honestly it's great for picnics, outdoor concerts, going to soccer games, literally any outdoor activity as it's so portable and easy to set up. It's a life saver for little kids as sitting in the blazing sun is not a great option for them.

This canopy is very lightweight and it should be done by 2 persons to easily set it up. I did it by myself, but the wind made it really, really difficult. I spent almost an hour to set this up, and only used it for about 2 hours before I had to pack up and leave.Once I got the base anchored with the stakes as recommended, the wind would pull up the stakes. I eventually used things such as the cooler and my beach chair to keep the base in place while I started the assembly.The long fiberglass rods would not hold together as I inserted those into the sleeves because the wind made the canopy flap too much. I had to start over by taking the base off the stakes and gently forcing the canopy onto the rods in small gathers until I had the rods through both sides, then I stretched out the base again. It took some time to finally get the long rods into the grommets on the base because, once again, the wind was tossing the canopy around.I tried to keep the sides erect while inserting the center pole, but that proved too difficult with the wind. I found that using the support cords to hold the sides up before trying the center rod was the key to successfully getting the canopy set up properly.The center support rod will only stay in place by using the attached tie at the top of the canopy. This tie is made from the same material as the canopy, and could easily break. If the tie breaks, there is no way to keep the center support in place to hold the top at the correct bevel. The canopy would still be useable, but would sag at the top.This comes in a nice carrying bag which holds the canopy/base, the rods, and the stakes. Getting the tent to fold back into a shape to fit into the bag almost required a course in origami . The material is thin and will fold up if you just roll it tightly.While this is a fairly good size for me alone, I don’t think it would be large enough to have 2 chairs without a bit of discomfort. This is more stable than a beach umbrella, but it took a long time to set up and break down.

This shade tent is perfect for a variety of uses but for us, it is for the beach. This is really a shade canopy. The design allows for the wind to breeze through while you don't have to run down the beach for your umbrella.The pros are the wind tolerance over an umbrella, but the canopy can still be affected by wind, just not likely you have to chase it down. The one in my size (16.9x3.9) is not very heavy as someone else wrote. It is about the same weight as a standard beach umbrella OR lighter than a heavy duty beach umbrella AND the zippered case has handles and is only about a foot or so long so it's much easier to carry and more compact. As a woman I hate carrying my umbrella and opt for the bags but this is just like another beach bag, in fact it could fit in a large beach back pack. Colors cheerful and suited for the beach, and this design is more unusual to the typical umbrellas or canopies so you can find your spot easily.The only cons that I see for us is that me and my sweetheart go to the beach together and sit our chairs side by side, normally with the umbrella pole between us. We have mid sized chairs, not the super low sand chairs and this means the arch in the canopy kind of clips the side of the chairs. So we can either take the low chairs with us or opt for one blanket and one chair underneath as I'm normally in the sun anyway. This is great for the bags, cooler and the baby seat, too.

I think this design works better on paper than the real world. It is designed to provide partial shade while allowing air flow and it does that. However it is completely unstable until multiple lines are secured in the ground. At the beach this would be unrealistic and a major trip hazard not to mention all of the extra labor and adjusting to get the tension correct. There are self supporting sun shades that setup easier than this Flycoop. Tossing this one in the can.
