I wish I knew how to contact this company and request a new seed set, I followed the instructions to a T and only one seed germinated. I was excited to grow Bonsai trees, the one that is growing seems to be doing great. When soaking the seeds, I saw almost no activity. The seeds must have been damaged or frozen. Kinda bummed. I gave it 2 stars because everything was there, and I did get one tree.Update: Planters Choice contacted me and offered to fully refund my purchase. I suspect that the seeds were damaged somehow, and I am very grateful they responded so quickly. I will most likely give them another chance since there are so many positive reviews. I bumped the review to 4 stars due to them quickly contacting me and wanting to make things right.

I picked up a few of these kits as Christmas presents, and they’ve been a hit. Each box comes with everything needed to get started, from seeds to helpful instructions. I was worried it might be too complex, but it’s actually beginner-friendly. The recipients love having a hands-on gardening project that feels special and different from typical houseplants. Watching the seeds sprout and grow into miniature trees is so satisfying, and it adds a calm, creative element to any space. If you’re looking for a neat gift for friends or family who enjoy gardening—or want to try something new—this kit is a solid choice.

I’ll try to update when I have a more bonsái looking tree but for now I’ll share my experience so far. The sowing of the seeds is pretty straight forward however I do think the royal seed needs more info. Within the first week I saw the Rocky Mountain pine sprout then the blue j seeds sprouted and 3 weeks passed and the other two nothing. I had done a lot of research through out this time and decided I’d try to help my other two seeds to sprout. I read that the royal seeds can be hard for sprouts to sprout because of its tough skin and need to be scored to help the sprout push it’s way out. So I took them all out found one was already sprouting and had an inch of root already grown but the seed skin was to heavy for it to push it up so I fixed that one and scored the rest and reburied them laying flat not to deep in soil and waited. One week later I had two new sprouts for a total of 3. The others were duds. I tried helping the Norway spruce but they are nowhere to be found in the soil I didn’t sow them deep I followed instructions did some more research on top of what the booklet info had but it seems like all the Norway spruce seeds were duds. Which sucks but 3/4 isn’t so bad. The blue and rocky so easily sprouted it was exciting to see. The royal just needed a little extra help but also exciting. It actually feels therapeutic to troubleshoot the trees and to check on them daily make sure they are fine gently fix them or move them when necessary. I bought a little sun light strip and they are currently located indoors on an empty shelf with the sun light strip above them on the lowest setting for 12 hrs a day I don’t water them to often because they aren’t in proper pots. Overall good deal I don’t think the kit is expensive for what you get.Moving on to the consOnly 3/4 seeds sproutedNorway spruce never germinated and they seem to have disappeared. The booklet has very little helpful info your better off going on google and YouTube. The coco soil stuff keeps growing some type of mold fuzz on top like white fuzz sometimes turning into bluish greenish fuzz if you leave it. I’m not overwatering them I let the soil start to dry before even watering them again and I don’t give them a lot of water when I do.The burlap style pot isn’t very good for this use. It isn’t leaking fluid but I can feel the outside of it is moist more so on the bottom. The burlap pots don’t offer good drainage which is very much needed for these trees. While pretty I would have much preferred some cheap plastic pots with drainage at the bottom. My guess is maybe that’s why the fuzz starts to grow. Maybe it has to do with the coco I’m not sure. I think they could probably change out the types of pots for cheap plastic drainage friendly ones.Overall tho not bad for the price I did get it with a coupon I think it was 12-15 in total. I will not however give it 4-5 stars because of the dud seeds and the fuzz that myself and others have experienced growing on the top of their soil and because of the non conducive pot as well as the booklet they count as an add on bonus that lacks info on bonsai practice and the seeds and even the basics on how and when to cut your tree sprout to start the bonsai process because if you just plant this and keep repotting this eventually you’ll have a normal sized tree thinking it’s somehow supposed to stay small and be a cool mini tree because you were sold bonsai tree seeds. Anyways I hope this info helps I’ll update pictures whenever I remember to on this review.

My experience with this kit was very good, one pouch was missing seeds I emailed the company and they sent replacement seeds and made the kit whole! As for the kit it self i have had very good results average of 5 seeds per tree with about 2-3 sprouting from each of the packets. I did not follow the instructions on the pack I followed my own variation that saw some of the seeds soak for up to 6 days. Prior to sowing. And I clipped the ends of my royal Poinciana and that was by far the most successful of the packs. Good customer service and good product. Can't expect 100% germination but enough germinated where I feel I got my money worth. Now I wait the years :)

Very happy with this kit. Good explanation of the seeds, germination, planting and the whole process. Nevertheless, I would like to have more information on what to do next.. for example a couple of tips for books to buy, blogs, or even YouTube videos for how to take care of your seedlings and how to give the best care.

The kit contains everything you need to start bonsai trees. I do recommend getting a bigger pot and replacing the peat soil with akadama soil after the seeds germinated. In my experience, the Picea Abies seeds have the low germination success (1 out of 4 seeds) and Jacaranda Mimosifolia (2 of 6 seeds). The Jacaranda Mimosifolia takes a long time to germinate so be patient with that one. Pinus Arista and Delonix Regia were able to germinate successfully and rapidly although scarification is recommended for Delonix Regia since its shell is extremely hard and waterproof. NONE OF THE SEEDS REQUIRES STRATIFICATION PROCESS. :D Don't expect immediate results and beautiful trees since these are seeds and requires years to grow before training. Overall, a good and well-priced kit for a beautiful ancient art.Update: 3 monthsAll the trees are growing nicely. One of the Delonix died, the other is starting to die. Found out they are really sensitive to water and temperature so do not over water it/leave in extreme temps. (The leaves open and close in relation to environmental condition) This has happened before but it came back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PEAT SOIL FOR THIS TREE.The Jacaranda Mimosifolia starts off slow but began to grow really rapidly; main trunk is starting to show signs of barks and hardening. The remaining pine-like trees are still alive but grows really really slowly, not much noticable growth since one month in.
