I have always had excellent customer service, even when working through a 3rd party seller. The returns I've made have only been because it was not quite what I was looking for, never poor products or faulty equipment. They(Amazon) has gone above and beyond for me.

I was really excited about this bonsai kit because it included black pine seeds. I wanted to grow a mini Christmas tree for next year, but this kit let me down. The wood box is flimsy and not well made. The soil discs were actually fine, they expanded well, but that’s the only thing that worked as expected. The tools seem super cheap and look like they won’t last long. One of the tools even broke the first time I used it, the head just fell off. And the worst part was that one of the seed packets had mold in it, which made me question if the seeds were even good quality.Bottom line - this kit feels cheap and gimmicky. I regret buying it and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone serious about growing bonsais. Save your money and get better supplies.

2/2 Update! The other three still haven't sprouted, so I'll try again with new seeds. I think that's on me. I don't think I kept the soil moist enough. As for the Locust, it's growing really fast. I've read that I should really wait a year to transplant. I'll reevaluate in a month. Still happy with this kit. Looking back, I think it makes more sense that it doesn't come with pruning/shaping info because from what it looks like, that is actually a few years down the line (and also involves wire). I've been getting info from a site called Bonsai Empire.-----1/10 Update! We have a winner! The Locust was the first to sprout a month after planting. The other three haven't sprouted yet. I will be transplanting it to its new home very soon. I will probably wait until early spring.-----What a cute little kit! I got this for myself after visiting the bonsai garden at the Huntington Library. I would've loved to have gotten this as a gift. It’s a nice side quest for my houseplant addiction. I love these little starter kits in general, but this one feels unique because of the variety of trees. I can’t wait to see how they turn out. What I like:- Comes with everything you need to plant. Each puck of soil is more than enough for each grow bag. You also get a lot of seeds. They look like they're in good condition.- Variety of seeds is great. I'm especially excited about the Jacaranda and Black Pine.- Grow bag is lined with plastic and has a drainage hole. There's also a plastic tray in the wood box for catching water.- This is a really easy activity for kids, adults, those who find it challenging to stay focused or can't sit or work with their hands for long periods. It's a really friendly project for a lot of different challenging situations. What could be better:- Doesn't say what the soil is made of. I assume it's coconut coir (fiber) like a lot of these kits come with. It looks like coarse coffee grounds once you wet it. On its own coir doesn't have nutrients. But sometimes they have nutrients added. It would be nice to know what the soil is.- The clippers could be smoother and better quality.- I don't think the tools are very useful. Easier to just use your hands.- It doesn't come with tips on how to trim your bonsai which feels like pretty important information for this hobby. I guess it's a few months down the line anyway.Other notes:- It doesn't come with the four colored pots in the first photo.- It takes 10–90 days for the seeds to germinate.- It needs to be transplanted once it gets to 2–3 inches. That means you'll need to get pots, fertilizer, soil, and do some research online on how to care for it as it gets bigger. This is a really great gift to keep in your pocket, especially if you snag this with the current 40% coupon for $24. Definitely worth it for all the plant lovers out there.
