I usually rely on Picaridin-based sprays to keep ticks and mosquitoes off me, but I really don’t like dousing myself, my clothes, or my family in harsh chemicals. This spring/summer, the mosquitoes have been relentless where I live, so I wanted something I could feel better about using more frequently as-needed.This plant-based spray fits the bill. The scent is strongly lemony and minty—definitely more pleasant than anything with DEET or Picaridin. Not exactly perfume, but way more tolerable and even refreshing.I first tested it on a dog walk at dusk (prime mosquito hour). I still had a few mosquitoes buzz near me, but instead of sneak-attacking, most stayed away. The few that came close seemed to bounce off the invisible bug-spray barrier. I didn’t get bitten, which is what matters.A couple caveats:1. I’m not sure how long each application lasts. It seems solid for at least a couple hours—I’ll be testing it at my next outdoor cookout to see if it holds up closer to the 6-hour mark.2. For wooded hikes or tick-heavy areas, I’ll still stick with Picaridin or DEET. I’d rather use the stronger stuff occasionally than risk getting bitten by a tick.But for daily use, this is a great, safer-feeling alternative—something I actually want to reapply when needed.

I always we’re off in the summer! Mosquitoes seem to be attracted to me and this was a must have. It works like it said.
