Why a one star? Because there is nothing lower. I, unwisely, ignored the negative reviews for this product. The software setup was easy, transferring the ink from the bottles to the printer, easy; however, using the printer, everything but easy. No, it doesn't print completely from a PDF; no, it doesn't print from a mobile device completely or quickly, or sometimes at all; and, yes, it made my day worse trying to convince myself that I was not the fool.I have a Canon R40 scanner: It is a fantastic product; however, the excellence in this product is nowhere to be seen in this Canon printer. Fool me once, shame on me.

I've had this printer for 6 months now and printed hundreds and hundreds of pages on it. Mostly making stickers using vinyl sticker paper which I then laminate and cut.The good: It is the cheapest pigment ink printer available. The prints are beautiful quality, the colors are super saturated, the blacks are black, and everything is fade resistant. Even after 6 months outdoors in the sun, the stickers printed with this haven't faded. It's not great at photographs because there are only 3 color tanks; but for illustrations, it is perfect! The bad: EVERYTHING ELSE. This is without a doubt the worst functioning printer I have ever had the displeasure of owning. The feeding mechanisms are horrible. Loading more than one piece of paper in the rear tray, it consistently double or triple feeds every type of paper - plain, sticker vinyl, photo paper - always feed errors. The main tray is not much better. It usually feeds plain paper ok, but will never feed sticker vinyl or photo paper even when inserted one at a time. And all too often, the main tray still fails to feed even with plain paper. To work around this, I have to manually load a single page at a time for every color print on nice paper. It's infuriating. The user interface is horrible. Every time paper is loaded, you have to use the screen on the printer to manually set the paper type. It won't remember the last setting. It won't print without setting it. Every other printer I've had lets you easily set paper type from the print dialogue on the computer, but not this one. And given that it only feeds one sheet of nice paper at a time, i also have to manually reset the paper type for each and every print. The maintenance functions are a scam. At regular uncontrollable intervals, the printer decides it needs to flush ink. And boy does it FLUSH! The ink flush function which cannot be stopped take several minutes and drains about 5-10% of the tank. It's loud and you can watch the ink draw down. This is both inconvenient when trying to get work done and a waste of the most costly part of the printer - the ink. It doesn't use much ink printing, but it drains your ink anyway. I'd estimate that i use 40% of the ink on prints and 60% of the ink on maintenance. Canon has obviously designed this to screw people over. After a few ink flushes, the maintenance cartridge gets full and you have to replace it.So overall, this has 5/5 prints and 1/5 function. I really want to like the printer, but it's terrible. It's still the cheapest way to make fade resistant pigment ink prints if you can deal with the insanity required to operate it.

I’m happy with this purchase so far. Printer sometimes gets finicky and has to think a minute before printing but it might just be the wireless network connection. Love the inkwells more than cartridges, they seem to last longer. So glad I made the switch from HP.

Always had HP printers but after Adobe Acrobat or Java or some old software went out of support I couldn't get the printer to work and wasted a lot of time online looking for workarounds that hundreds of other people posted having the same problem. Left HP for this one because of the ink bottles being better for the environment and more cost effective. Very pleased with easy set up with cable and print quality. My only disappointment is that it said the printer can use cable or wifi...I thought the technology would be better by now and be able to do either...interchangeably...but it can only be set up one way or another...it can't be set up with cable to my PC and then walk up with my phone and print from wifi/ Bluetooth or whatever. Come on people, wouldn't that be cool? The control screen turns up so I have no problem reading it. It holds more paper than my old printer. It turns itself off so I have to keep remembering to press power button on it when it gives a print error but that is probably a nice energy saving feature and it prints quickly when that happens.Overall very pleased.

Update 8/5/2023 after a year. I am so happy with this printer. It is a great home printer. With so many typical home printer offering so much less value, e.g., it was less expensive to buy a new printer than to buy ink, this is an exception. No mysterious errors. It just prints. I have printed about a thousand pages of paper models on cardstock with no problems. This is the printer I wanted if it had been available when I bought the Canon Maxify MB2720 in 2019. I wanted the water resistance that pigment ink offers. The MB2720 has been very good. It recently had issues with a known error that is fairly common and we weren't sure if we could fix it. After the warranty expired I did start using an ink refill system and that was fine, except that company has gone out of business now. When I saw that Canon now offers a pigment printer with ink tanks, it seemed like a very good time to invest in a new printer and I am so happy with it,Setup for this GX5020 was incredibly easy in contrast to the quirky setup for the MB2720. The printer connected to my wireless router easily and I was able to complete the setup with my computer in a couple of minutes. My primary use is to print paper models/papercrafts along with normal household printing. The GX5020 is better for this than the MB2720; it has a back feed tray with a straighter paper path where you can load heavier paper or labels. I also consider it a benefit that this is only a printer, not a multifunction combination with features I don't need. Canon does make a multifunction printer in this lineup if that is what you want. The OEM inks are more vibrant than the refill inks; a terrific feature for the papercrafting I do.NOTE: This is not a photo printer, so if that is your primary need for an inkjet printer you should look for a printer that is designed to print photos. This printer prints photos nicely not stunningly,
