These seem really easy to put onto my shoes. I haven't had to use them somewhere intense yet, and they seem like they won't hold up in anything major, but I do like them for smaller hikes.

Good idea to keep a set of these in your car and/or near the door if you have icy areas to cross. The galvanized metal is rigid with short triangular spikes. Kinda reminds me of a truss brace. The straps could be improved in my opinion. Instead of cheap elastic straps they should have something like seatbelt material. For the price (~$11 as of April 2024) they are still a bargain.

I've tried a number of these over-boot cleats/spikes in advance of some winter travel. The high points of these ones are that they are very easy to put on/take off and they are the spikiest of all the ones I've tried. I imagine these ones are likely to have the best performance from a non-slip perspective, but I don't find them as comfortable to wear as other styles. With the style like these that only put the spikes in one area of your feet it feels a little strange to walk as part of your foot is much higher than the rest. These would probably be a great for a quick walk on super icy sidewalk, but I would not want to go very far in them as unbalanced as they make me feel so that is the basis of dropping 1 star.

I wanted to get some safety spikes to use down at the barn when the ground gets frozen with ice, and these crampons seem to be a good choice. They are easy to attach and remove with the included thick straps of Velcro -- just put one under your shoe, then wrap the straps over the top of your foot and connect the Velcro and you're done. To remove, just pull the Velcro apart. The metal plate is strong with almost no flex when I tried bending it. When up against the bottom of your shoe/boot, there shouldn't be any problem with it holding shape. The spikes aren't very long, but then again, if they were much longer it would probably make it awkward to walk on them. I also found out that these are TSA approved -- they showed up in the X-ray of my carry-on bag and they took a closer look. After seeing them and confirming with a supervisor, they allow this kind because they have short spikes and were so compact (other types of crampons they prohibit). We haven't yet had ice on the ground, but I expect these to give us extra safety!

The Crampons Chain Spikes Shoes (ASIN: B0CJ2BCB24) are aggressive and compact. The spikes from the bottom plates will be good for traction on show and ice. Good traction under the balls of your feet. However, I walk heal-toe. These do not provide traction to address heal slips, so this is a concern. However, they are really compact, so my plan is to keep them in the glove box for the unexpected. If I know I will be out in advance, I will wear full coverage crampons that also cover the heal and toes.I also have concerns where the ends of the hook and loop closures attach to the traction plate. The material will be in contact with the snow and ice under pressure each step and will likely wear through rather rapidly. On the upside, hook and loop material is easy to purchase and replace.

You wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of these! I may try these hiking, but I have a different style of micro spikes for that, and I have Yaktrax-like grippers for around the yard and neighborhood. I plan to keep these in the car for emergencies--they don't take up much space at all. They are easier to get on and off than the other kinds, but I would worry about them slipping off and getting lost. However, if I do take them hiking and they seem solid it would be very convenient.

I now have two kinds of cleats. The first is the rubber cleats you stretch around your boots and are hard to get on and off which is good if you don't want them to come off. This one you simply velcro around the mid section and get them on or off very quickly. I like the convenience of these very much and they provide good traction.
