The GRAIN mode is commonly used to weigh gunpowder for reloading and archery arrows. The GRAM and OUNCE modes are great for weighing lab chemicals, specimen, and even precious metals like scrap jewelry & bullion; the Ounce mode is also great for food portions. The TARE button allows you to reset the scale to '0' while in use; perfect when weighing powders, oils or liquids. The calibration weights can be used to re-calibrate the scale from time to time, ensuring consistent measurements. High quality strain gauge load cell system makes it accurate in full capacity range. High density ABS housing and metal support makes it very durable. Large high contrast LCD display makes the readouts clear to read. User can switch off the back-lite to save power. Flip-open cover protects scale's platform when not in use. Includes batteries, calibration weight, instructions, and Lifetime Warranty.

Scale seems to be accurate. Calibration is easy. I calibrated it, weighed 12 arrows, then verified that the calibration didn't drift with the included calibration weight. All's well. Excellent unit at $10 including shipping (caught on sale I guess). This appears to be the exact scale as the Hornady GS-1500.

I use this when reloading ammo. It appears to measure accurately enough, but the auto shutoff is too quick. Easy to use and calibrate.

Purchased this a short time ago for reloading... It is accurate enough for most shooters except maybe the few that shoot just for 1" groups. I used it to accurately set up my powder drop by measuring 10x the single drop and then averaging back to one... Since most powder drops are +/- .1-.2g anyway it worked out just fine. The scale allows setup for constant drops within my error level.I'd buy it again.

I received this with excitement as that was the only item I needed to begin reloading. First thing I did was read the instructions, then put in the batteries and turned it on. It was on zero, so I placed the 100 gram calibration weight on and the scale read 100.4. Then, I placed the 1 gram calibration weight and the scale displayed 3.6. This scale is a big disappointment and could be very dangerous weighing gunpowder. I sent it back and asked for a refund. Piece of Junk!

I only use it for Black powder but it seems very accurate and on the manufactures web site this thing goes for 78.00 so Great price Amazon. Fast shipping everything was as it should be. Its a nice little scale and love the spare batteries compartment. only way to make it better would be to have a spot to store a calibration weight inside it.

Sold as a scale for weighing powder for reloading...well, don't do it if you like your gun or your fingers intact.I followed the directions, I calibrated the scale and switched it to "gn" for grains. Initially, it read correctly (I have a manual scale to compare with). My load was 5.0 gn of fHP-38 in .45 ACP for reference, with 185 TMJ bullets. This is the minimum load suggested. Max was 5.9 gn.Manual scale read my charges (and I will say that I am completely anal retentive and checked multiple times since I have a new powder hopper). at 5.0 grains.Digital read at starting at 5.0 and reading all the way up to 5.8 in some instances - with the same charge weighing in at 5.0 on the manual scale. This is using the tare function with the powder scoop from the manual scale - so I know the charge was the same for both scales with differences in "weight" according to this digital scale. My suggestion? I wouldn't use it for weighing powder at all. This kind of inaccuracy can leave you blind, missing fingers or blow up your gun. I would invest in a good manual scale. They aren't hard to read as I would have expected, and that was my main factoring decision in buying this one initially.

Very compact, easy to store gun powder scale. It does the job and appears to be very accurate as my shot patterns are tighter and tighter on my reloads :-).

So far this scale has been very accurate. The precision is within the advertised +/- 0.2 grains. Measurements are obtained right away and they would remain steady as long as the air doesn't hit the plate. The screen is well illuminated and the digits are big enough so they can be easily seen. I didn't give the five starts because I think the instrument should have some kind of protection to keep local air currents away from the plate. In general I think it is a great little scale.
