Very plug-and-play. I took this out of the box, plugged it into my existing ethernet cord from the modem, and connected it to two desktops that are used regularly to watch high-quality videos, video conference, and play online games at the same time. While we haven't done a true side-by-side test, we haven't noticed any speed difference between using this and running two ethernet cords directly from the modem. This is really nice in the situation I'm in where the modem is in one room and I have to run an ethernet cord through the wall to get to the office, leaving me with only one cord for two computers. For reference, I use this in home (not fiber; speed tests are usually around 350-500Mbs). This is connected to an ethernet cord coming from a modem from my service provider. After over two months of daily use, I haven't had any issues and really like the speed, flexibility, and cord cleanup this splitter provides.

It didn't work

Unfortunately, this didn’t work for what I was hoping. And that is entirely my fault—I took a gamble, but it was only a ten-dollar gamble so I’m glad I did.I noticed on this product listing—and others just like it—it shows the types of ethernet sources and destinations, and it does not list modems. I ordered this because it had a lot of good reviews, though one reviewer was also using it for a slightly similar situation and it didn’t exactly work for him. Still, I thought I’d give it a try. What I wanted to do was split a signal directly from my ISP-supplied modem. My internet supplier provides high speeds up to 1,000 Mbps. However, my router does not go near that high—it outputs to 100 Mbps. That’s good for many things, but I have a 4K TV, upgraded to a 4K package on one of my streaming services, and the quality I’m getting is not much different than HDTV.I am in the market for a better router, but I thought to try this splitter in the meantime. My intention was to connect the input to the modem, one output to the router (which does have direct ethernet outs but limits the speed), and one output to my smart TV, which has an ethernet in. That way, I figured, the router would not limit the 4K video signal to my TV.Well, it didn’t work as I’d hoped. The TV did not see the ethernet connection, though the router worked as usual. I did some research on the net, and it seems many intelligent modems do limit their output when splitters are attached. I did switch the outputs but somehow the router always took precedence. So I could not get a direct high-speed ethernet connection to my TV when the router was also online. As far as I can tell, this splitter works well otherwise. It does not reduce the speed, and it seems to function as described. You need to connect it to a 5V, 1amp USB device to power it—it comes with that cable, but not a power adapter. So you’re going to have to find something to plug it into. It also does not include an ethernet cable to connect it to the source, but I wouldn’t expect that for this low price. All said, this is a good splitter (which is why I gave it five stars)—just not necessarily for splitting signals directly out of an intelligent modem. I think there's no way to tell which modems, if any, will allow signal splitting directly, which is why I took the gamble. (I probably should have just called my internet provide first to ask if it would work!)

I use this device to split a 1 gigabyte internet access between two different devices, a television/monitor and a computer. No loss in speed. Easy to install. Powered by a USB-A connection from my computer. Recommended.

This 1 to 2 ethernet splitter is small, and up to 1000Mbps high speed. It looks good and is very convenient to use. Since more and more devices have wireless connections, those 8-port switchers seem to be out of date, as more often a 1x2 splitter is enough.
