The tachometer works well, but you must use the reflective strips on the target to get a stable reading. I was using it to measure the rpm of my computer fans. The readings were all over the map until I applied a small strip to the center of the fan. Readings were accurate and stable after that. Be sure to apply a small strip off-center on the hub - not on the blade, or it will unbalance the fan and cause vibration. Overall, the unit helped me optimize my computer fans. The test button should be on the side, not on the front where your hand blocks the display when testing. OK, but not great....

Bought to use setting idle speeds on garden equipment. Unfortunately, device requires sticking a piece of reflective tape to the item being tested and then scanning with the battery operated tool. As fortune would have it, all my lawn tools have housings around the only visible "spinning" part of the engine, thus no test can be run. I missed the 30 day return window thus the item will probably never be use . Too bad!

I needed to check rotation speeds of turntables. This worked like a charm. Place the marker on the turntable or record and read the rotation speed. That's all there is to it.

Worked fine but after light use (about 6 times) it stopped functioning. No longer can see the visible LED and no longer detects the reflective tape. Cheap.

Not me, but this tachometer. I was doing a project where I needed to measure DC brush motor speed up to 100K RPM using a non-optical technique, so i used this as a reference. It was dead-nuts accurate, easy to use, and rugged (i dropped it a few times.) It worked perfectly. It's not very expensive, it's accurate, and it works.

Works better than you'd expect for the price. Simple to use. Fast, accurate and consistent. Not a lot of features, but if all you need to know is how fast something is spinning, this is your tool.

I purchased this to check and adjust the RPM on my mini mill, mini lathe and drill press to ensure proper feed and speed ratios. I did not pay attention to the instructions and was sure the product did not work-my bad. I failed to install a piece of the tape on chuck for the pickup function. I cut 1" section of tape and installed it on the chucks and all is well now. This tool enabled me to label my machines for RPM and now use to set proper speed when a project is assigned. Price is fair, case is nice for protection and storage in the cabinet.

This product is a great quality tool for measuring the rpm's of most anything. The device has a an acceptable reach for accurate measurements as well as great accuracy.
