Live Feeder Insects

Feeeding Beardie
Great For Many Pets

Acheta Domesticus are an excellent source of protein and are very easily “gut-loaded” with calcium and other important vitamins for your pets.

  • Bearded Dragons
  • Leopard Geckos
  • Chameleons
  • Lizards
  • Frogs
  • Small Birds
  • & Many More Pets!

Cricket (Acheta domesticus)

Acheta Domesticus

A Cricket (Acheta domesticus) is an insect with distant relations to the grasshopper, and are found almost all over the world! They can range in size, but a Fluker cricket can get up to an inch in length. Pick the size that best fits your pet's needs!

  • Small - Approx. 1/4"
  • Medium - Approx. 1/2"
  • Large - Approx. 3/4"

Caring For Feeder Insects

Gut-Loading

Gut-loading

You should gut-load Acheta Domesticus with Fluker's High Calcium Cricket Diet 24 hours before introducing them to the reptile. You could also mix half of the High Calcium Cricket Diet with half of the Cricket Diet.

Temperature

Temperature

The optimum temperature range for Acheta Domesticus should be 70°-75°F during the day and at night. This is necessary for their metabolism and immune system to function properly.

Substrates

Substrates

A bulk of one thousand Acheta Domesticus will require at least a 10-gallon aquarium. Suitable substrates for your cricket homes include egg crates and orchid bark. You should also provide dark places for hiding. It is important to clean the cage out at least once a week, or between cricket shipments.

Pick Your Size

Feeding Your Pet

Feeder insects should be no larger than the space between your pet’s eyes.

Mealworm

Mealworms - (Tenebrio molitor)

Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) are the larvae of mealworm beetles and are an abundant food source for many animals. Birds, spiders, reptiles, even other insects prey on mealworms to find a high protein and fat source in the wild, and it is much the same in captivity!

Superworms

Superworms - (Zophobas Morio)

Superworms are the larvae of a darkling beetle, Zophobas morio. Not to be confused with giant mealworms, which are mealworms sprayed with a juvenile hormone, superworms are a great source of calcium, fat and fiber.

Hornworms

Live Hornworms - (Manduca sexta)

Hornworms are an excellent feeder treat for bearded dragons, leopard geckos, chameleons, and various other reptiles and pets. Their bright green color stimulates picky eaters, and they are extremely low maintenance.

Soldier Fly Larvae

Soldier Fly Larvae - (Hermetia illucens)

Soldier Worms, the live larvae of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens), are a naturally nutritious, protein-packed, calcium-rich treat for your pet. Their balanced Calcium to Phosphorus ratio is ideal for reptiles (without the need for dusting), and can help prevent Metabolic Bone Disease.

All 250 crickets arrived dead, my reptiles will not eat dead crickets, the entire process was a waste of time and money! Now I have to drive about an hour to buy crickets!

My thoughts before I bought them was there is no way they will make it. And they didn't. My kids lizard still has been eating them. But they were so dead they were falling apart in the container. Nit sure I'll do that again.

I can definitely see how live crickets by mail could be hit or miss based on weather and shipping time but the 2 times I’ve had them arrive dead I sent the seller a message and they had new ones shipped out within 2 days! They are also a great size with a few varieties in size which is great if your like me and have multiple critters needing different size dinnersThey look healthy are a great value and were pretty easy to get out of the box into a tank! And they end up living way longer than chain store crickets!I will say I am not a fan of the metal tubes they have been shipping them inThe boxes were nice and insulated and with temps having just dropped where I am when they come in the tubes like they have the last couple times the tube gets cold very fastNot sure why the switch but I miss the boxesI’m glad company will replace them but is is a little annoying when you’ve got a very grumpy frog who refuses anything but crickets and now you have to wait for a new batchI’ve also gotten a few tag along in mine but nothing harmful! Just Dermestidae beetles and larvae which are harmless to living flesh and actually great for keeping your cricket container clean! They eat the dead ones happily! I kinda wish I’d gotten a few stowaways sooner I kinda like them :)

I order more then I need because about 25 - 50 % arrive dead. I keep them in a medium - large crate but they die off fairly quickly. I feed the orange cubes, dry cricket food, veggies and fruit. I clean ild foods daily as I feed new foods. I keep a thermometer that shows humidity and the humidity isn’t always ideal. I order 1000 to get 300 live to feed. This is not a good deal but I need a variety. I feed to my Bumblebee dart frogs, sling jumping spiders and even adult bold spiders.

I don't know how to write this review without sounding like it's a paid advertisement. I have no affiliation with Flukers. I honestly don't know the first thing about them, other than they also make cricket food that I've purchased in my local pet store. Now on with the review! Before trying Flukers, I ordered medium-banded crickets from several other companies based on price and delivery speed. I've been pretty disappointed with those orders. I've gotten wild variations on cricket sizes and I usually get what looks like half the amount I ordered.I've placed my last few orders with Flukers, and they have been the most consistent. They get to me relatively fast, about three business days (I'm in Atlanta), and they're packed well and mostly alive. I have no idea if there are 500 in the small box, and I could never count them. But, I'm happy with the amount. The big difference seems to be the way they're packed. They use egg crate material that's neatly layered in the box to keep the little guys and gals from getting tossed around like beads in a maraca. And, the price is great. If I got the same amount of crickets from my local pet store it would cost 10 times what I pay. Overall it's a great value and I plan to keep ordering from Flukers.I've received nothing in return for this honest review. So there.
