For a year I have been daunted in replacing the flushmate system and finally did it. And it was pretty easy. Now the toilet is restored to normal porcelain glory!

My other flushmate handle broke and this was the perfect replacement.

I was staying in an apartment with a toilet that uses one of these mechanisms. The handle was broken, so I had to leave the lid off the toilet so I could flush it.It was easy to install and works perfectly, so I'm flushed with pride over my plumbing skills.

Called Flushmate because the installation video showed a front handle toilet and mine is a side handle. They said it would work and it did. I'm a girl and installed it in less than 15 minutes.I would make sure you have one of those magnetic poles in case you drop a screw.

For me, the Flushmate handles were clunky. This provides a very smooth flush. When my other toilets handles break, I will replace them with this.

I've bought a few of these which work great at first; however, they tend to break due to a design flaw.Fix: Add some silicon or liquid nail where the cable snaps into the black toliet mechansim mounted on top of the flushmate. See picture.Problem: For some odd reason (verified on three different toliets) the cable can pop out of the mechanism and misaligned itself...once the next "pooper" unknowingly flushes...the cable either stretches or breaks inside the toliet handle contraption. Annoying problem with an easy fix. This one took a lot of research to trace down, but the system is a must have for any flushmate out there! Would be five stars ig not for needed fix. Good product.

The Flushmate toilet handle system e uses a cable from a plastic frame above the actuator to a cassette which attaches to the flush handle's stem. Pressing down the handle pulls the cable contained in the cassette. The other end of the cable presses down on the frame which pushes down the actuator thus flushing the toilet. The first Flushmate toilet handle system I purchased lasted about three months. The cassette broke. I called Sloan Flushmate and was told item was under warranty and that a replacement cold be sent to me. The rep first wanted proof of purchase and photo(s) of broken cassette. I took photos of any pieces I could find in the trash and promptly emailed requested items. In the meantime, I got a replacement from Amazon in two days. The replacement I bought lasted about one month. Again I emailed Sloan Flushmate and said the cassette had broken again. It turned out that the end of the cable in the frame broke. Both defective parts were genuine Sloan Flushmate parts. Again, I contacted Sloan Flushmate No response The toilet handle turns a cheap plastic piece in the cassette that pulls on the cable. The other end of the cable is a thin plastic piece that fits into the frame above the actuator.. The cable pulls down the frame which presses the actuator. A poor design is not helped by inferior parts. My Flushmate 503 came with the lift rod system which had also broken and this item being reviewed was its replacement. Lift rods are no longer sold by Sloan Flushmate. If you buy a toilet with a Sloan Flushmate flush assist device, you are stuck. It cannot be removed to convert the toilet to a gravity flush system for technical reasons I cannot explain. I just replaced my toilet with a Kohler gravity flush model. In marked contrast to Sloan Flushmate, Kohler representatives are very responsive and helpful.

Replaced my old Geberit PF/2 150-403 with a Flushmate 503. Got this handle as I was not sure the Flushmate kit I was getting from amazon came with a handle (some reviews said it did but product description said it didn't). Either way I am glad I got this. While I don't have the link system to compare it to I really like the way this works and it seems very sturdy. It makes the handle spring loaded so it snaps back to horizontal and takes very little effort to push and flush. The link system on my old tank was getting goofy and sometimes would slip out of the handle. Since I am apparently the only one in the house that could figure out how to put it back together this was $30 well spent.
