Some reviews say this is slow to update this is a feature. If you dig into the settings you can set the update frequency to any amount of time from 1 second on up. I keep mine at 3 seconds for sailing which is responsive enough but not killing the battery and making all of the dashboards constantly changing under sail. This specific model also allows customization of up to three dashboards in table format where as others units allow only a single table dashboard. I think it is better that it is not in color as it tends to be a little easier to read at the helm. I have three of these now. Once that I use, one for the ditch bag and one in the faraday bag. With this and a paper chart you can find yourself anywhere in the world.

Using this on my sailboat to look for speed changes due to trim. Rugged unit, digits are large enough to see from the helm. Very happy with this unit.

Nice little GPS, but reacts quite slowly when I walk from one location to another during field work. Had the same issue with two different GPS 73 units, so assume it is a feature of this model. The 78 and 79 models react much faster. I prefer the 78, but they are becoming quite hard to get. Wish you would make them available again.

So I have been a fan of Garmin and using the Garmin GPS 72H for many years using it for offshore wreck fishing. The 72H was a great handheld GPS unit with pinpoint accuracy. I purchased and tried out this Garmin 73 and hated it from the second I made my way to my first offshore wreck. The screen is simply too small. It is horrible. The pointer arrow is hardly visible. And the worse part of the GPS is it is not pinpoint accurate like the 72H model is. I had both GPS units going simultaneously and it was impossible to precisely position on top of my wreck with the GPS 73. The 72H had a nice long black visible pointer arrow and you can see the distance approaching wrecks. This GPS 73 will only put you in the area of your GPS waypoint. If you were a fan of the discontinued Garmin 72H do not buy this GPS 73 thinking that was improved. It is horrible. I returned it and searching for something with a bigger display and that actually is accurate.

This is not a chart plotter, let's get that out of the way. I'm a sailor on an unfamiliar lake this is great. Set your waypoint to the dock you left or any other destinations you put in and it will take you right there. Great for any sailor who races. And has a tacking feature also. No problem on a sunny day. Well lit at night. Runs on two aa batteries and I always have a spare set. Run time on batteries is excellent.
