Oil Seal

Original front main seal lasted over 30 years. Crankshaft showed slight discoloration where the original seal sat. Could not feel any wear, but to be on the safe side installed this thinner seal. No more leak and probably no problems for another 30 years. Toyota quality and good engineering idea. Better and faster than putting on speedy sleeve. Highly recommended.

This is the repair seal that's thinner and drives in further allowing the seal surface to ride on a new previously unused portion of the harmonic dampener. Would have preferred to have gotten the original thicker one since I'm installing a new harmonic dampener. It is a factory Toyota part, marked as such, and in a Toyota bag.

I bought a rebuilt engine 170K miles ago, and it always leaked through the old pulley seal. For 10K miles it has not leaked. My rebuilt engine has a 'pulley shaft seal surface' that is deeply grooved, but this 'thin seal version' does NOT ride in the groove, and so far does not leak any oil. I wish I had done this 160K miles ago, (note - this leak was tough for me to pin point.

This replaced my original 22re crank seal and it stopped my leak from the oil pump. This Will fix a problem with a grooves crank pulley just drive it in all the way down!;)

After a number of years, the microscopic grit in your motor oil can wear a groove in your crankshaft at the front seal. This Type-T seal moves where the seal contacts the crankshaft just a little bit, but enough to have the seal contacting undamaged metal. If you've replaced your front seal (with or without your oil pump) and still have an oil leak, this will probably be the fix you are looking for.I've installed these on mid to late 80's 4Runners with 200k and 300k miles, and they are both dry as can be now. Changing your oil regularly and using a high quality oil filter (10k or 15k mile rating) will keep your oil much cleaner and delay the formation of this groove in the crankshaft if you don't have a leak (yet).

Needed to replace the front main seal...there was a groove worn into the shaft and using this size works perfectly to stop the oil leak!

Installed on a 1992 Toyota pickup with 22RE engine.Old seal was leaking. Pulled the harmonic balancer off, and drove this seal all the way home in the oil pump. Harmonic balancer did have a slight groove in it from the old seal that was leaking. The new seal is now riding on a different spot of the harmonic balancer, and it is leak free. This is the seal to buy if your harmonic balancer is grooved causing an oil leak. Thanks Toyota for making it, and thanks Amazon for selling it!

Used this to solve my leaky seal on my 22r. This is thinner and will fix the gouge on the crank pulley by changing the seating location. Worked like a charm!
