After using the trimmer on a few reeds, it is apparent the resulting trimmed tip shape does not accurately match the shape of standard high-quality alto or tenor reeds from the major brands, nor the shape of the mouthpiece tip. The resulting trimmed shape is not symmetrical and too much is trimmed from one side compared to the other side. This creates a less-than-ideal seal at the reed tip. The construction of the reed trimmer is good with the exception of the shape of the cutting surfaces, which is the primary purpose, and there it fails to be useful. The abrasive glass items are of good quality and are useful.

I bought this as a recommendation from my sax teacher. She showed me the value of prolonging reed life. Once you trim the split/damaged portion you will need to sand the reed down to make it playable. This tool replicates the original contour of the manufacturer tip. So far it's working as expected.

It works very well it took me a little while to understand how to use it but it is a very good to Use and I think people would like to use this Tool it makes the reeds last longer I like it

The product seems well made and does what it's supposed to do. There aren't any instructions included in the extra-tight-fitting box so plan on coming back to the Amazon listing to see how you're supposed to use it. But it does a nice job of smoothing reed surfaces/edges and the trimmer works better than I expected. I like it and will probably use it to prep all of my reeds. Use care though since some of the components are glass and may break if dropped. I removed 1 star because it should have come with a small pouch or wallet so it would fit better in my horn case.
