Satellite Positioning Board

Features

This module not only has a ceramic antenna onboard, it can be used for satellite search and positioning in open areas without an external antenna

At the same time, the module is also welded with an for SMA head, which can be used for an external antenna to make the satellite search and positioning ability stronger.

When using, we can squeeze the GPS module through the micro usb interface of the module, use the mobile phone data cable to debug the GPS module

And also use the USB to serial port module or an external microcontroller to control the reception of GPS information through the serial port reserved by the module.

Specification:

Item Type: GPS Module

Material: Synthetic cardboard

Purpose: This is a GPS module, which takes NEO-7M as the core and can be used for satellite positioning. Suitable for car navigation, handheld positioning, wearable devices, DIY experiments

Working Voltage: DC3.3-5V

Current: 40mA

The Default Baud Rate: 9600 (can be modified through U-CENTER)

Output Frequency: 1Hz (can be modified through U-CENTER)

The Highest Positioning Accuracy: Approx. 2.5meter / 8.2ft

Note: Pay special attention to if you connect an external antenna, you need to remove the C2 capacitor on the module and place it on the internal antenna and external antenna at the same time, which will cause conflict and affect positioning. Because there is no satellite indoors, the module can only be used outdoors and cannot be used for positioning indoors. The positioning accuracy of the module is up to 2.5 meters.

Package List:

1 x GPS Module

1 x Connection Line

I was expecting it to be much harder to decode and utilize GPS time, but thanks to the use of standardized NMEA data, it is very easy. With the help of an FTDI cable, I had this module up and running in about 5 minutes. No instructions are included, so the additional information below may be of help to some. The default serial rate is 9600 bps with 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. Note that the devices's serial pins are labeled from the MODULE's perspective, so be sure to connect its TXD (brown wire, at least in the one I received) to computer or microcontroller's RXT pin (this is the yellow wire if you're using an FTDI cable). For my initial testing, I didn't bother to connect anything but power, ground, and the data lead from the module to the computer. The green LED on the module is lit continuously until satellite information is received, at which time it starts blinking at a 1 second rate. As the Amazon page says, be sure to remove C2 if you're using an external antenna. They say it cannot be used indoors, but I have mine sitting on a window sill and it's receiving five satellites at the moment and working just fine.I'm now looking forward to building my own GPS disciplined clock!
