Smaller than expected but that was my fault for not reading carefully. Would be best for hamsters. I just keep it open for when I take my guinea pig out to roam. The mat is easy to clean

I needed to create a strong, non-chewable barrier so my bunnies wouldn't crawl under my TV and storage cabinets. This was perfect. It's colorful and provides just the right height so my little darlings don't get into trouble. It's very flexible and turns easy around corners for a snug fit. You can loop several of these together. The mat underneath isn't really that strong - like a plastic sheet - so I wouldn't really recommend that as a base if you were using this for smaller animals - especially if they chew. Otherwise, this is a a great product. Remember to view the height requirements - this is only a playpen meant for very small creatures.Edit: After reading through other comments, I just want to be very clear - this isn't a pen for my rabbits - just a barrier I place along open spaces on cabinets so my buns do not crawl through the decorative spacing. There is no way this would ever work as a play space for a rabbit or guinea pig (or even an active hamster). It is a very small, low cage - it looks like decorative edging that you would use in a garden. It would ONLY be suitable for a very small critter that does not actively climb. Buyer beware - check those measurements carefully before you purchase.

Obviously there are some typos in the description, the panels aren't 55 inches long and the whole thing isn't even remotely close to creating a 24-foot enclosure. That said, the metal frame is hefty and well-built. The "play mat" is cheap plastic and very, very small. It probably works well enough for very small animals, like hamsters. Two are enough to make a decent enclosure for our guinea pigs provided you use a box or yourself to create one of the walls. If you want it to be completely standalone, you'll need three. And you'll definitely need to provide a large blanket/sheet/towel for underneath it. I can't imagine it'd be good for anything that's inclined to jump or climb.

I purchased this playpen, since, according to a hamster book, hamsters should be given free roaming at least 3 times a week, either in a playpen or a "hamster-proofed" area. So I rotate between using the bathroom, and this playpen as my hamster's "free time" area. However, it was not hard at all for my syrian hamster to escape from. Needs to be at least 5 inches taller. It wasn't as large as I expected, so it's area is definitely limited. This is NOT a "small animal" pen. This pen would ONLY fit the smaller hamsters, such as Dwarf hamsters. I do not recommend purchasing this item if you have a: syrian hamster, fancy hamster, rat, guinea pig, ferret, chinchilla, or any other small animal that is larger than a dwarf hamster. I DO recommend purchasing this item if you have a dwarf hamster. But, for those who do not have a dwarf hamster, sadly, I recommend to stay away. Storing this playpen is tricky, because it won't lay flat. Also, after only two days, the panels started unhooking at the bottom, even though stored it with care, although it's hard to do so.

At any of my local pet stores there are similar things to this I could be. All in the range of 35-40$'s for about the same size around and the only difference is they are taller, about a foot and a half tall instead of 9 inches like this. So I bought two of these, and with the free trial of Amazon Prime free shipping, 30$'s was well worth the size of the perimeter for my guinea pig.I can see the problem with this if you have more of a climbing rodent but guinea pigs in general I hear, or at least mine, don't climb. So it's a perfect height. They easily connect together if you have multiple. My piggie really loves to roam around freely in here since it's quite a bit larger than his cage, especially with no houses or litter box in his way to run around. He likes to run and often pop corns so I know he loves it.I can see how one would be quite small for a rodent so if you buy it I really suggest you get two of them and connect them together on the floor.Do not get if your rodent likes to climb and escape, it's too short for that.(So all in all I got twice the size of those expensive ones at the store, for the same price of one of them! Felt like it was a good deal.)

Love this playpen. It was a gift to my son for his two gerbils and they really enjoy time in the playpen. The sides could be just a bit higher - as they do like to climb and have almost gotten over the top. We now put some cardboard in with them so they are kept busy and they forget about climbing out. Its nice to just sit on the floor and interact with them outside of their cages. We also use the playpen in the bathroom when we are washing out their cages. They have a good time, and my son doesnt' mind washing the cages so much anymore since the gerbils are right there for him to watch. It hooks up nicely to his cage and tunnels - so when he's finished playing with them, he opens the connector and they go back to their cages.
