I have an English bulldog (70lbs) and as anyone who has one knows, they are the most skiddish when it comes to anything different. Well the ramp was delivered and I set it up with the rails going along the side of the bed, not in front as I have a log bed in the cabin that has a high footboard.I put her harness on her and showed her the ramp and literally had to pull her up halfway. She decided that the was no turning back I guess and proceeded on her own onto the bed. Once I showered lavish praise she went down on her own. I have to say I believe the ramp width, rubberized gripping surface and rails are key factors. This morning I placed a treat halfway up the ramp and she walked right by the treat onto the bed. Again lavish praise was given and the treat was consumed. This will help so much relieving pressure off of her back and joints. The ramp is very sturdy and with the rubberized feet and my placement against the wall she feels very secure.I hope this works out for many folks to help with joint issues and gets our fur children where we want them….

I really love this ramp, though I have used it a bit differently than most might. My 120 lb senior dog has bad knees on his back legs and can’t get into the backseat of my pickup without assistance. I normally use a special harness with handles between the shoulders and above the pelvis to assist lifting his back end into the truck. He needed to have surgery though, with a large abdominal incision and I was worried that lifting with this harness would pull on his incision site. He’s also a big ‘fraidy cat and unlikely to walk up something like a ramp (tried when he was younger with steak at the top and he refused). I knew it was going to be hard to get him up anything , but was especially concerned the ramps that attach at the vehicle would slide or bow or be too steep and he’d refuse. This was the only free standing ramp that looked sturdy enough for a dog his size and long enough to not have a really steep incline for him to go up. Given his stubbornness I was a bit worried about spending so much, but after some practicing he realized it was a lot easier to get into the truck. It worked great after surgery, though he had vet wrap on his paws and was a little loopy from the pain meds and slid a bit, and for multiple return visits to the vet (with bare paws and no sliding). After use, I would collapse it and slide it into the bed of my truck. This was a bit cumbersome as the ramp is heavy, but not unmanageable. My only tip is make sure you have the side rail off before letting it collapse down or it will torque sideways and put strain on the screws and risk breaking the wood. Now that he’s recovered well, I plan to put it next to the couch so he can get up there. In sum, it’s a nice, sturdy, quality built ramp, with good traction, & manageable slope. It’s best used in a designated location and not moved around a lot due to it’s size and weight, but if you really need to move around it’s possible.

One of my fur babies had surgery on his knee at about the same time I bought a big, king size adjustable bed. This new bed is much taller than my previous bed and although I have a set of dog stairs beside the bed my dogs insisted on jumping off the bottom of the bed. When I got the new bed I was terrified that my dog would harm his surgically repaired knee and that my other dogs might hurt their knees by jumping off the end of the tall bed. I measured my bedroom to make sure this ramp would fit and although it is the full length of the width of my new bed and a tight squeeze I just felt it was so important to save my dog’s knees that I ordered it. My little dogs were skeptical at first but my brave little Tippy who is very curious took to it after just one day. Then his little brother was not going to be out done and he started using it as well. Now they go up and down the ramp all the time. My little puppy that had knee surgery is still using the stairs on the side of the bed but at least nobody is jumping off the bottom of the bed! This ramp is actually beautiful. I ordered the natural wood finish. It was easy to set up right out of the box. The ramp is big and I definitely recommend you measure the space you intend to put it in. It’s so well-made I know it’s gonna last for the rest of my life. If you have older dogs with mobility issues or dogs with knee problems I really recommend this ramp. Put a high value treat at the top of the ramp and I’m sure your babies will take to it like mine did. One of the options in the review was to rate the ramp by stars for maneuverability. I gave it four stars only because this thing is huge. I do cautiously slide it over to the side and vacuum under it but this thing is not going anywhere. I suggest you pick a spot where you intend to leave it and set it up there and leave it.

Our dog Toby, a 55 lbs hound mix, is nearly 14 and having movement problems. We needed a ramp for him to climb up and get down from our bed. I must have spent six weeks looking at every ramp on Amazon, comparing features, reading EVERY comment. I chose this one even though it was, by far, the most expensive. I am thrilled that I did, and Toby is now using it regularly (it took about a month). Why did I buy it? These are my reasons (1) it is solidly made with a wide ramp and a guard rail; (2) it did NOT require any assembly other than putting on the rails with wingnuts (note comments regarding other ramps that this is a real problem: (3) it is attractive, and I was able to pick a color (teak) that fit in so it look good. While it is large, it "works" in our bedroom. This is an investment for Toby and the future. (4) they provide materials and videos for training and offer call-in health as you train your dog.My one suggestion is to buy non-slip furniture grips (cheap) to secure the bed if on a hardwood floor like ours. Please don't use the rope b/c you will need to move it away from the bed to make the bed and change the sheets. This is the one to buy. I don't write reviews but had to for this one.
