My Yamaha motorscooter has a speedometer that is difficult to read because of reflections off the glass face. I added this GPS speedometer, it is much easier to read. When you get yours, do not turn it on until you read the directions. It boots up in setup mode and will walk you through the setup the first time it is turned on. If you turn it on and punch a few buttons, like I did, setup will be frustrating. There is a factory reset button on the back. Hit that and like any computer thing (or vending machine), keep punching buttons untill you get what you want. Once you get there the spedometer will work fine. I don't use any of the other functions so you are on your own for them.

So far this has been a great little tool for my bike rides. I ran it alongside the Runkeeper app that I always use and I have discovered that Runkeeper seems to lag behind with my speed while this bike computer gave my speed in real time. I found this out when testing it in my car, which should have the most accurate speedometer that I would have access to for comparison since it won’t be using a GPS to calculate speed. When I would slow down, the bike computer also would slow in real time, whereas the Runkeeper app would lag by half a minute or more. When I came to a complete stop and my car speedometer said zero, the bike computer also said zero but Runkeeper was saying I was still going 20 mph and didn’t reflect that I had came to a stop for quite awhile after, which by then I was already moving again. I got this bike computer because I wanted to be able to look and see my speed at any given time. I don’t have room for a cellphone mount on my bike so I have my phone in bike bag and set up Runkeeper to tell me my speed every so often, but there would be many times I’d be hitting a great speed and had no idea how fast I was going because it wasn’t time for Runkeeper to announce it. So this little bike computer has been great for me to look at my speed at any time and it is in real time and seems to be fairly accurate. When tracking distance, it will be about a tenth of a mile less that whatever Runkeeper says. I don’t know if it’s something to do with the bike computer being on my handlebar and the Runkeeper app being in the bag under my seat, or if it’s the difference in technology, or that sometimes bike computer gps drops out for 5-10 seconds when I go through a patch of trees on the bike trail. For the most part it stays connected while on my bike trail, which is in the middle of the country and goes through corn fields, but sometimes it has trouble in thick trees. Overall though, it works great for what I want it to do and for the price it can’t be beat. It was easy to set up and use, although when entering my time zone it tells the time hour ahead. It makes no provision for daylight savings time, but that’s not a big deal to me since I’ve got a watch on anyway, I know what time it is. But if the time function is something important to you then you’ll probably have to enter in the time zone that is an hour behind your real time zone in order to get it to display the correct time during daylight savings time, and then you’d have to change it to your real time zone when daylight savings ended to display the correct time.

Does the job. Bought this as I am only looking for a display of my current speed. All the other stats can be tracked using my phone. Battery life is a bit short. Only lasts about 3 rides.

I had 2 earlier white M3 Meilan units purchased in 2020 that worked well for approximately 2 years, then 1 suffered a meltdown that using the recessed reset button couldn't cure.I purchased another M3 in early 2022. The M3 has only 2 buttons for shifting modes, so they require holding the buttons down longer or shorter to get in different modes or to accept or eliminate data. This is cumbersome at best, but with my newer unit, I have learned what to do and not do to reset and record mileage.I have also learned not to play with it during a ride, since pressing too long or short or pressing the wrong button may require calling up the manual on your phone and spending 20 minutes computering, not riding.I learned that the more expensive Meilan M1 actually records your altitude profile, while the $30 Meilan M3 gives an instantaneous altitude reading. Meilan has an M2 unit that is slightly larger and does more (things like cadence and heart rate with bluetooth, and a Blade model and an M4 model that are larger still and have buttons on top of the unit. All are priced $56. The next level is $100+ for the M1 and Finder models that both offer navigation via smartphone app, plus all of the other optional things like power meter, hr, cadence etc..The Positives: I like the use of GPS to provide speed , mileage and altitude data, without having wires or a remote wireless sensor with separate battery, that can go bad. Admittedly, when cycling under trees, your GPS speed reading will read low. Interestingly, Meilan's higher priced units with cadence and speed go back to using remote sensors with batteries and sending units. This is great for those who approach riding and personal fitness as a scientific project. I was a scientist for 43 years and I ride to get away from charts and graphs. The M3 has just the basics. Also, the unit seems to have the battery power for a hundred mile day before recharging, at least when new. It can be carried in your pocket to record length of hikes and dog walks, and can provide paddling speed or sailing speed. What other bike computer can do that? And the cost is not hundreds, but $30. They have also improved their mount, such that the earlier units could only be mounted on the handlebar, but now can be mounted on bar or stem. When turned on, It can take a half to 3/4 mile to acquire the GPS signal, if you begin riding immediately. You can, of course, turn it on first and give it a few minutes to acquire signal before riding. Conclusion: For its' size and price and general reliability, plus its ability to be used for hiking and paddling, and even model car and aircraft racing, if you can put up with its' funky short press, long press, left button, right button navigation, it is an amazing little unit! (My first mileage recorder was a small mechanical box that mounted to the wheel hub, with a star shaped extension that a peg mounted on your wheel would hit and move with every turn of your wheel. So many hits against the star would indicate a mile. Amazing how far we have come since 1977!)
