I work with a rescue and foster kittens. This reader works for Homeagain but NOT Avid microchips, and we use both depending on the shelter they come from. Buyer needs to be aware of this. It should state this in the description like most of the other readers do. I am returning

Scans dogs and cats. Only time it didn’t work is when my cats were standing next to the metal screen door.

I work with a cast rescue and this was a great addition to my tool box. We often find stray animals and this helps to identify ones that may have owners.

It took a minute to find where my dog’s chip was but I was finally able to locate it.Very happy to know I still have the same golden doodle. 🤣 As they often look like different dogs leaving the groomers.

Really does work very well and reads our pet’s chips instantly. A must have for any pet owner.

I got this because of all the stray homeless animals that are both cats and dogs that come to my house. When this happens, I would keep them until I can try to find an owner. Almost all do not have collars on. And I would never know if they were chipped or not. So, I would have to take them over to the animal shelter that is usually closed and see if they can scan them for a chip. It is a huge process. So, having this is wonderful. I have an older cat here at home that has a chip. And when trying to scan her which I did many times it wouldn't locate it. I was getting discouraged especially when there hasn't been a whole lot of strays lately to scan. But I got myself a new kitten a month ago who just got his microchip today. I couldn't wait to see how it worked on him. Immediately it made a noise I hadn't heard before. I looked at the window panel and it had his chip number there. so, it does work! In fact, I was impressed how easily it read his chip. And how fast. I'm not sure what is going on with my other cat's microchip, but I know she had had it now for 13 years. I would say it no longer worked but a year ago the Vet looked for it and it did. But I am not going to worry about hers. I think it is just her chip. So, I recommend this for finding microchips on pets because of how well it did with my kitten's microchip, and I can't wait to use it on another animal. Maybe I can get them home a little quicker.

Our work gets a lot of strays turned in, and we've always had to call animal control to see if they're chipped. This works great, with about a 5 second swipe across the neck. It displays the code and holds it to allow you to note the code.
