  • Getting IV access for infants/toddlers is a challenging task, you need to practice more. - Infants are wriggly, their veins are small and they often have excess adipose tissue. Many pediatric nurse has few chance & experience of obtaining IVs for babies. The realistic IV simulator is designed to create a Pediatric IV scenario to help nurses/doctors practice more on Pediatric IV access.
  • Flashback in IV. - We design a handy reservoir & valves to create enough pressure by lifting or inflating the reservoir. By simulating the pressure in vein, we ensure the appearance of flashback, which is the most important signal for a successful IV insertion, injection, phlebotomy, catheter.
  • Palpation skill demonstration & training. - Palpation is used to assess the depth, width, direction and health (resilience) of a vein. We design a visible & softer simulated vein with silicone material, it brings convenience for palpation demonstration & training. The feeling of venipuncture is also fantastic cause of the soft feature of vein.
  • What we get in the kit. - IV simulator hand model, reservoir bag x 1, fake blood material 10g, Robert clamps x 2, stopcocks x 2, 100ml syringe without needle x 1, waterproof pad x 1, tourniquet x 1, portable bag x 1.
  • User’s guide is available. - We will provide instructions on how to set up a complete venous system for the simulator. When the intravenous environment is set up, you can practice intravenous injection, blood drawing, infusion, indwelling needles and other skills on the simulator.

The key to the generation of flashbacks in the venous system of the pediatric simulator:

The simulator will only generate blood return when there is sufficient pressure in the venous system. The magnitude of the pressure depends on the placement of the reservoir bag. When the pressure is small, we have two ways to solve it.

Solution A: Fill approx 450 ml or more liquid to the reservoir, make reservoir inflate to create enough pressure, or anyway you can give pressure to the reservoir, like putting weighty stuff on it. Enough pressure could help flashback effect come out readily.

The key to the generation of flashbacks in the venous system of the pediatric simulator:

Solution B: Hanging/lifting the reservoir at any position higher level than the simulator to create gravity pressure artificially to help flashback effect while needle inserts the “vein” correctly.

Needles shown in the picture are solely for illustration and are not included.

Ultrassist's Pediatric IV Simulation Kit is equipped with a 3-way valve.

The three-way valve will help you set up your venous system more easily, quickly and neatly. The three-way valve will play an important role when you're refilling your reservoir and when you're packing up after practice.

The off flag points to the closed channel. At this time, the channels on the left and below can flow liquid.

Says it’s an infant, but it’s huge. We called it Baby Shrek in our NICU. Works great for initial training.

I'm very happy that I found this project since the full baby version was not available and over $800. I bought the head, leg, and arm, to help skills training at my level I nursery. The feel of the skin and pressure for needle insertion is better than previous IV start baby simulators. As long as you are realistic about the capabilities, this is a great product.
