On my old plumb bob I would have to put a nail or screw into a board to hold it in place, this one has that taken care of if you have something metal you can attach it to, or it can affix itself to wood with the retractable pin. Seems well made and is holding up nicely so far.

This is a weird combination of well machined metal and oddly cheap looking plastic, which leaves me a bit baffled. I can't figure out why there is a multi-piece plastic hinge at top of the plumb bob instead of a metal fixture built in to it for reliability and precision. In the listing photos I wondered why there was plastic around the weight, but after having gotten it, they are bumpers to protect the weight, presumably from surfaces that would damage it like masonry. The hanging attachment has magnet - an alnico magnet, not a fancy neodymium one, and a pin you can push into soft wood or wallboard - I didn't know what the push rod on the hanger was so I pushed with my thumb, and accidentally stabbed my finger, not expecting a sharp point to come out the back.Overall this meets my expectatin from the listings. But I think next time I'll order a plumb bob that doesn't have a plastic hinge on it. That just doesn't seem durable.
