It goes into the base, but doesn’t always keep it charged. You have to play with the cord to get it to actually charge and it falls out very easily.

I got this as a back up for our monitor. and it does work. but need to check your monitor before using and the voltage.

We needed another charging cord for our VTech monitor, so I purchased this one. I plugged the parent unit in and left it charging with the monitor off. When I tried to turn the monitor on the next night, it made an awful screeching noise then turned off. It wouldn't tuen back on. Tried plugging it in again, taking the battery out and putting it back in, and charging it with the original cord we use for the other parent unit. It briefly was able to turn it on but it couldn't connect to the baby unit. After a couple attempts, it stopped turning on all together.

Bought this because our vtech monitor battery doesn’t last all night. We plug it into our dying monitor at 4 am to charge and the monitor won’t turn back on. Tried charging it with the original cord for a bit, tried taking to battery out and putting it back in. Nothing. Now we have nothing but a broken monitor at 4am.

I needed an extra charger for my granddaughters vtech auto baby monitor, and it worked..also i charge her walking crab which didn't have a charger for it so i used the same one and it worked great!
