Worked fine on my SBC. Easy to use, feel much better with confidence level in correct TDC.

Used this on my '89 chevy with a 350. The balancer had slipped and after replacement I wanted to make sure the marks on the balancer were correct. This tool made quick work of it. Pull #1 spark plug, insert piston stop fully, then crank the engine by hand all the way one direction until it stops. Take a look at your timing tab and mark the balancer at zero. (I used a paint pen)Turn the engine over by hand in the opposite direction until it stops and make a second mark at zero. You end up with two marks an inch or two apart. True top dead center is half way between them. Sure, you can use a coat hanger or screwdriver but I never really knew for sure if i saw it stop moving up or not. Did it just go down? Did i miss it? Not nearly as easy and if you mess it up, good luck with getting your timing set at spec.......

The centre probe flops around in its thread a little, but with care, a good result is possible. In its favor, it's a cheap, simple tool which can very accurately obtain true TDC in my sbc

I needed to re-adjust/verify my tdc pointer as i removed it when I changed the front seal (sits a lot and leaks every few years).Instead of removing the head I used this, as I assume most of us us it for. Best way is with a degree wheel but Mine is to large for use in the frame. So I set the pointer, rand from stop to stop and set balancer to the middle of the two marks where the current pointer location was. Adjusted pointer to 0.I also set the piston to just past top of stroke via camera. Installed stopper and ran by wrench very slow. Once it stopped and had marks I verified eye ball wise I was at least with in a degree +/- of tdc with the scope camera. The tool did make a very small divot on the piston. This leaves me to think those who used brute force and/or the starter for loop and BEND the tool did more then bend the tool. So be careful and don't eat your Wheaties.Suggest removing all the spark plugs and turning the balancer with a wrench or average sized ratchet, not a breaker bar, extra long ratchet, using the starter, or other tool that would give you to much "power" to bend the tool.yes, I am sure people bene doing this for 30 years (if so, why would they need a "new" tool and not the one they always use) but as time changes so to the way things "should" be done.

I always wonder what kind of person would read a review for something like this? Well… here you are! What do you expect? It’s a simple tool for finding top dead center of cylinder one… or whatever cylinder. Use it in conjunction with your pinky finger to check for compression. Want more? Ok… if you have some fishing line, you can make a neclace out of it. It makes a great conversation starter when used as the centerpiece at your next dinner party. Throw it at people you suspect of lycanthropy, if they yell “ow!” They are most certainly a werewolf. You will pick up chicks like never before, or dudes, it works both ways. It will make you a better lover, and more successful with finances.

It does exactly what it's supposed to do - I wanted to verify that my TDC mark on my balancer is indeed at TDC - and that it hasn't slipped. Easy to use - remove a plug, put the engine near TDC (cylinder one on my Mopar 360) and thread in the tool. Rotate the engine slowly with a ratcheting breaker bar and mark to a reference (I used 0 degrees), then rotate engine opposite direction and mark again. Divide the distance between the two for TDC. Remove the tool and replace plug, set timing - and enjoy!

Works well enough. On a V8 motor, the tip can come in at an angle. I ground and filed the tip so the part that contacts the piston is smooth and will not damage the top of the piston.Worked perfectly to find TDC after that.

This is the right tool for finding TDC for your engine. I backed out spark plug #1 and installed this piston stopper. Then I climbed under the truck and used a socket and ratchet and turned the engine clockwise until it stopped turning. Made a mark on the harmonic balancer. Then I turned the engine counter clockwise until it stopped and made a second mark on the harmonic balancer. Found the 1/2 way point in between the 2 marks and made a rd mark to indicate TDC. Rotated the engine to the 3rd mark and then dropped in the distributor and lined up the rotor to spark plug wire #1. Jumped into the cab and tried starting the truck. BAM! FIRED RIGHT UP! Works perfectly!I had no issues with the piston stopper. Screwed in to the hole nice and snug and the bolt was easy to adjust. Never bent the bolt but I was turning the engine by hand. This tool was meant to be used only by turning the engine with a socket and ratchet.I'd recommend this piston stopper tool!

I could have probably made one from a spark plug but it wouldn't have looked as nice as this one.
