Great Nas. Qnap interface is not for new users. I enjoy the Nas but my family struggles a bit with the mobile device apps.

Best Nas!! I'm currently running 3 WordPress websites on it. I had a terramaster and it was a major fail for me when it came to running a wordpress website.

I mainly got this for Plex. I was able to pick it up on sale for $179 which made it a great entry level NAS. I also picked up 2 8TB hard drives so I could use RAID1. I've never setup a NAS or RAID1 and the setup was fairly easy and straightforward. Some tips:- Setup a static IP address instead of using DHCP (you get this option when first setting up the NAS but you can also change it anytime).- Use a direct connection via ethernet to your PC for initial data transfers. I transferred over about 2tb of data to the NAS to use with Plex. Over wifi it was roughly 10mb/s. When I setup the direct connection the speed was about 40mb/s. I only have a 1gb port on my PC so I'm sure that was limiting but either way itwas much faster than uploading via wifi.- You can also mount a network drive to your PC so you don't have to go through the web server each time to access files. Makes it a little easier to transfer things.I did hit small bumps when setting up the direct connection. I unplugged the NAS so that I could move it from my router to the PC. I had trouble reconnecting. After some quick troubleshooting I just hit the reset button on the back for 3 seconds and then I was able to log back in using a default username and password. (the default username is admin and the default password is the MAC address of the NAS). Once I reset the NAS (it keeps your data - just resets connection) I was able to log back in and set up the direct connect.I haven't tested it too thoroughly yet since I'm still in the process of rebuilding my plex library after my old hard drive died. But I'm able to play most videos for now without any major issues. I typically only have 1 TV on at a time so I'm not sure how the NAS would be running multiple videos.

The hardware works well. The set-up process is not straightforward. It is clear that all of the documentation is aimed at people who understand networks--not the average computer user. It is very important that anyone who buys this downloads the user manual from the link in the product listing. There should have been a simple check list of how to get the NAS up and running. Enhancements can come later. So, here it is a simple list of things to do. Install the hard drives, download and install the Qfinder Pro app from the website. Open the app and sign into the NAS. This will open a web page in your browser which is the dashboard for interacting with the device. Create a storage pool. Create a volume from the storage pool. Create a RAID array from the volume. Then create any folders that you want. You will also need the QTS-5.1 User Guide which has what seems like an almost infinite amount of information about servers. More than 90% of it does not help me, but the section on file operations is important. The QNAP web site has what you need but it takes a while to find it. There are a lot of features that can be added to the NAS which give the unit more capabilities if you need it to do more than store files.I am replacing an old Western Digital NAS that did the job for me without all of the options that this NAS has. Now it is installed it works well and file transfers are much faster than before. The online dashboard is easy to use once you get used to the way it is organized. This is a good value for the money and I hope that it lasts as long as my Western Digital NAS did.

I got tired of my home network music access working when it felt like it, so looked into using a NAS and chose this QNAP model after reading reviews. I have some IT experience but no longer work in it so this was admittedly a tad complicated, but I also admit I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like asking for directions when I'm lost. I realized at the mid-point I was complicating things by *not* stopping and making sure the home network access was solid before worrying about the online cloud part of things. The unit itself is not large and the process of adding either size SATA drives was easy. On a desk shelf, it is a bit noisy as you can hear a bit of hum and vibration when the hard drive or drives are spinning. The power cable is a tad short in my humble opinion. You start by installing a "Q-Finder" app on your computer attached to the same network, and step-by-step the software walks you through assigning an admin login and setup on your LAN. Once you wade into the out-of-home access arena is where I had problems, but when I realized I didn't want that, the rest fell into place. There are tweaks you make with the QNAP *and* the devices you want to use to access the files to get it all to work. Go slow and careful and use the Help and online searches and it comes together. Your phone, tablet or other device will need to login the first time with your admin name and password to see and play the files but once you are thru that hoop the fun begins. This QNAP plays MP3s more quickly and without any hiccups than several server apps I used for years on Windows. The QNAP has it's own processor and RAM so it is way faster producing file lists and starting playback. The user interface on the computer is quite nice too. Between the cost of the QNAP and a nice fast 3.5" 2TB hard drive I had $300 invested but I am happy with the results.I didn't have to contact tech support so that was a win. I could also enable an external drive connected by USB for access. Be aware that using a pre-loaded drive on the inside is not the idea--the QNAP formats/erases any drive you install internally.Hope this review was helpful.
