This ring is based on the original sundial ring Queen Eleanor gave to her husband, Henry II of England in about 1152. On a cloudless day, hold the ring upright aligning one of the 3 reference lines straight up. Rotate the sun dial until the hole is next to the current date (month of the year and beginning/middle/end of the month) A beam of light illuminates the time on an inside clock scale. Calibrate by using the reference line that works with your latitude - northern cities will use a different line than southern ones. The 3 reference lines allow Daylight Savings Time adjustments as well. Made from VERY durable stainless steel, acid etched markings.

Nice gadget but the writing is so small that is impossible to read without using a magnifying glass, also, the projected through the hole light is not really visible on the inside surface of the ring.

I have always had a fascination with sundials. This sundial ring is fun and easy to use and makes a great conversation piece. It looks impressive and is of good quality. Love it!

A good gimmick. Does not work in Southern Hemisphere and not too good near the equator. Really probably only works in northern hemisphere near UK latitudes.

This is a very well designed ring. It tells accurate local solar time. Do not be confused by the clock which can be 30 to 90 minutes off depending on where you are located in your time zone and whether you are on "daylight savings time."This ring is round, not oval (like most rings are for comfort) due to the moving center ring piece.

These are very cool well made steel time rings. The inner track turns easily and the markings are sharp and clear. I will advise anyone thinking of getting these though to consider the sizing if buying them for a finger. For mens sizes (well I suppose it is the same for both), these seem to be about 2 sizes off. I purchased one size 12 and two size 10 rings. The size 12 is more like size 10 band in reality. The size 10 is more like a size 8. If you are going to wear them on a chain this wouldn't be a problem but if buying for a ring finger, that seems to be a problem. The size 10 does fit my pinky snugly which is fine. The actual use of these as a time ring is pretty fascinating and if you do as instructed and put the reference lines straight up when putting the inner band on the month of the year, the dot that shows in the inner band is a nice round definite spot very close to the actual time approximation. They are a nice conversation and novelty piece anyway. I gave them 4 stars due to the sizing issue as specified in the listing.

Should of just left it unpainted with a polish finish since the paint peels off anyway. The etching is enough to see what you need and looks good. Easy to use and works like it says.

Is nice, but engravings are already wearing off.

I got lucky this ring comes in a size 10. I only wear rings on my "ring finger", and this is the size of my right hand ring finger. It is too bad there are only four sizes available. They should make more sizes.I used a common sense method to calibrate this ring. I dialed the hole in the inner part of the ring to the appropriate part of the calendar, and then let the sun shine through it onto the time pips inside the ring. Then I rotated the whole ring until the sun dot aligned with the time on my wristwatch. This told me which of the three latitude lines was the right one for me to use in the future.Since I calibrated this about midway through August, I dialed the hole to be midway between August and September. This is a gadget which does not need batteries or a subscription or a Bluetooth connection. This is old school stuff which is powered by the ancient and awesome physics of the Universe. It just doesn't get any cooler than that.

I Bought the ring because I thought it was different. I really like the engravement " Carpe Diem", a good saying to live by. I bought my ring in February 2016, it has a beveled edge, nicely constructed. The size 10 is a little small but it won't slip off. The ring works if you follow the instructions, however, it will be off 4-5 minutes because of the size. Overall it is a great buy and am happy with the purchase.

This is great in concept, and it sort of works, but as a ring it leaves something to be desired.First, as a tiny sundial, you're not going to get pinpoint time accuracy . . . this is obvious enough. But it's really quite difficult to use, as well. The latitude lines provide a sense of where to try to aim it when holding it upright but these are unmarked and iffy. I've found it best to try to put the item on a slender string in-between lines and then maybe, after a minute, you can get a decent estimate of the time, if you hold it just so.Second, as a ring, I hate it. The thickness isn't bad, but the sizing is a little overstated (it is smaller than you think!), and the ring's edges are virtually unfinished. In a word, this puppy is sharp. I was trying to keep it on my pinky in lieu of the ring finger and it scuffed multiple plastic items and damaged the fabric of my pants pocket. I therefore cannot do anything with it until I can try to figure out the mechanics of rounding those corners a little better without ruining the ring.I still like it, but technically it is barely passable as a ring or a sundial, which are the only two things it is doing. But I still like it.
