I had a super old fluorescent fixture on its original ballast (40+ years) that was having a hard time getting going in the morning (don’t we all lol). This made it work like new. This was the most reasonably priced one I could find (man have these gotten expensive in the last few years), and it was easy to install. Just match the wire colors and you are good to go. I’ll keep these folks in mind if I need another down the road for another fixture.

If you follow the wiring diagram, this works perfectly.

The ballast on my DynaTrap XL died and you can't got the original one as they want you to just buy a new unit. I looked around for something similar. This one was slight overkill for the job and quite a bit larger than the original but it for inside the housing fine and the tubes fire up instantly.

These were stated as replacement for my 90's vintage ballasts but were half the size and 1/3 the weight so I was rather skeptical. Doing a little research, I found the old, heavy ballasts used a magnetic core while these new ballasts are transistorized which explains the size and weight differences. As such, they fit one ballast socket mount on the fluorescent panel but the other end requires drilling a new bolt hole. After fitting the new ballasts I went in search of new fluorescent tubes only to find none available and ridiculously expensive. Apparently they are being phased out in place of LED bulbs. Surprise! These ballasts will work with LED tubes as well as the old style tubes. Wiring can be baffling as the old ballasts used 3 sets of dual colored wires while the new ballasts have 4 sets of dual colors. Just wire as shown on the diagram decal on the ballast. Removing the tombstone receptacles is easy and a large, unbent paper clip inserted into the secondary hole above the electrical wire and pushed while pulling slightly on the wire will release it. New wires plug back into same hole as old ones. Easier than splicing wires. Really easy if you can take down the entire fixture.

It worked after I figured how to wire it but it wasn’t the one I ordered. I have 8 wires and this one has 10 wires

This is VERY OLD technology dating to the 1980's. If you really want to save money and fix your lights at the same time, I strongly suggest you abandon the florescent technology and the electronic ballast and go LED. The bulbs are $12 each and far easier than installing a ballast. They consume much less power, last far longer, don't pollute our land fills, and the cost of this ballast will pay for one of them anyway. You will save $12 for the other bulb in less than a year, AND you can get bright bulbs. The LED conversion involves wiring the 110 volt wires directly to the bulbs - no ballast - just like wiring a standard bulb fixture, and although you can use the old florescent mounts, they include one new set of mounting hardware that you can use to replace the bulb holders at the end where you connect the 110. You simply cut all of the other wires at the other end, its used only for mechanical support with LED technology, and you can leave the old ballast in place, just cut all of its wires off.The result is nothing short of SPECTACULAR, its faster to install, uses less power, and there is NO HIGH VOLTAGE in your ceiling or interfering with your radio. Also, there are allegations that proximity to high voltage and florescent bulbs may cause specific types of cancer in women, who are the persons working under these lights in the kitchen in many households. BTW, you can return ALL of your old florescent bulbs to Home Depot who will dispose of them for you. They are dangerous devices, so be careful transporting them. (This is for California, I don't know if they do this everywhere).

Good price and prompt delivery on both orders, first order already installed and working well. Second order not yet installed so cannot tell if ballast if good.

The small size means it will always fit but most fixtures require drilling a new mounting hole for the screw. The wires are longer than another ballast replacement I bought previously. No wire splicing required as they reach all the way to the lamp connectors. The preheat design should extend the life of the bulbs compared to a standard rapid start ballasts available at big box stores and many electrical suppliers. I have replaced 3 fixture ballasts so far and they work well. Ballast choices seem to be disappearing at retail outlets, so I bought a 10 pack to replace ballasts in 14 4-ft fixtures plus 10 more in a second location. Should last me for several years as they progressively fail. Life time of these ballasts is unknown to me, but they certainly cure the starting problems I have been having. New bulbs did not solve the starting problems. The old ballasts were about 25 years old.

Worked like a charm to replace my old dead 80s-era ballast, even with the same wiring. More than enough wire was provided on the harness. Huge improvement over the old ballast, much faster startup time.

In short:. Instant start up without blinks. Slightly brighter than Phillips eBallast. No hum like my the old magnetic ballast. Shorter and wider than the Phillips, but diminutive compared to the magnetic ballastI have a ceiling with 5 fluorescent fixtures: one uses the Robertson, 3 use and one still has an old magnetic ballast. The Robertson is shorter and wider than the Phillips, but wasn't a problem since my fixture has screw holes for both size. The Robertson ballast is a winner, since it starts up faster, makes no hum or flickers, and gives brighter light than the rest.Wiring is super easy: just color match the existing wires. Remember to turn off the circuit breaker first or else...It will be the last ballast I purchase, though. LED tubes are getting cheaper. They use half the power of fluorescent while still allow me to use the same fixture. I just bought the and will update this review once I get more experience on it.
